Yukito's Yellow Nuzlocke is the longest day... - Day #12

Darogh's journey picked up from where had left off. Exiting the Silph Co. tower and resting up, Darogh made for the Saffron City Pokémon Gym, where he would take on an assortment of pyschics and channelers. Here, Phat Beatz received the training that he needed to catch up with the rest of the team, except against the ghosts that were for reasons unknown also there.

Yukito's Yellow Nuzlocke gets real - Day #10 · 4:27pm Oct 10th, 2017

Much of today's journey for Darogh was spent grinding against the various trainers enroute to Lavender town from Fuschia City.

Along the way, Drk Mousey and Krapfish gained the most experience, frying petty birds and eating them for breakfast, dinner and tea, whilst Podders proved himself against the little shrubs thrown his way. Ok For Now proved that his Ok-ness was starting to come to an end with a stream of continual misses.

Along the way, Darogh encountered the only remaining Snorlax in the Kanto region and engaged it in battle against King Urple. After several failed attempts to capture the beast, it finally relented and surrendered itself, and Phat Beatz joined the crew!

Taking a brief interlude in Vermillion City to rest up his team, Darogh debated whether or not to box Ok For Now and withdraw Phat Beatz. After much internal debate, he decided to leave Ok For Now in his team for one more Gym challenge, deciding that a Flying Pokémon might prove useful against Koga, or at the very least could earn a warrior's death by sacrificing itself for the good of the team!

Finishing off the last leg of the grinding experience, Darogh allowed Podders a snack in the form of many Water-type Pokémon belonging to the various Fishers along the way. Those who weren't Mega Drained for their life forces had their brains exploded by Psychic. At the end of his excurssion, Darogh received the TM for Swift.

Before returning to Fuschia City, Darogh made a brief stop at Viridian City to pick up the TM for Dream Eater - and was promptly dissapointed that Podders was unable to learn it.

Returning to Fuschia, Darogh attacked the Gym once more, this time Sally Mndr much more prepared to kick butt. And kick butt she did, cleaning her way through the Gym's pathetic trainers before reaching Koga, who was more than prepared to accept Darogh's challenge!

Starting out with three Venonats, each one slightly stronger than the last, Sally used her Dig and Ember attacks to sweep throught them, enduring just a little Toxic poison along the way. Then out came the Venomoth. After curing the poison before it could become too strong, the Venomoth showed off its powerful Psychic abilities.

Thankfully, Darogh had indeed stocked up on Super Potions, but the Pyschic was too strong. Darogh could not risk attacking without Sally being at full health.

Worried, Darogh swtich to Ok For Now, confident that he could tank one hit and then Fly to deal a significant blow. Tank one hit he did, but the Venomoth was too fast, and broke poor Ok For Now's mind before he could sore into the sky... It was inevitable, really. Darogh knew that one day, Ok For Now would no longer be okay now. He just never expected that 'now' to be... now...

Fire in his eyes, Podders jumped out to seek his revenge. Darogh knew what to do, and ordered a Sleep Powder on Venomoth. Thankfully, Koga made a classic miscalculation: due to Bug's resistance to Psychic, yet weakness to Poison, Koga instinctivly relied on Toxic to defeat Podders, allowing him the opening that he needed to put Venomoth to sleep! Now he just needed to stay that way a little longer...

Darogh switched out to King Urple and buffed it with an X-Accuracy. Venomoth still asleep, Darogh ordered King Urple to use Horn Drill... but it had no effect! Shocked, Darogh panicked and told The King to Double-Edge. It had very little impact, but Venomoth still slept soundly. For whatever reason Koga saw fit to buff it with X-Attack...

Calming down, Darogh swapped back out to Sally Mndr. Venomoth snoozed on and Koga used another X-Attack... Why?!

Darogh took the opening to use Ember. Venomoth awoke then, and though the attack did not do much, it left Venomoth with a nasty burn.

Darogh healed Sally and knew then what to do: taking out all of his Super Potions, he readied himself to just feed them one-after-the-other to Sally, and allow the burn to do the work!

However, when Koga spent a turn using Toxic - and failing, at that - Sally had an opening to attack, speeding things up a little and leaving Venomoth weak enough for the burn to finish it off.

And with that, the battle was over. Koga awarded Darogh with the Soul Badge and a TM for Toxic.

"Oh-hoh-hoh," Koga said. "You really surprised me, though. Using Horn Drill on a Pokémon faster than yours!"

Darogh wondered what he meant, and enquired.

"Oh, you did not know? Horn Drill does not affect Pokémon faster than the user! Now, if you had used an X-Speed..."

...

Punching Koga in the face, Darogh left Fuschia City's Gym and returned to its Pokémon Centre to bury his lost "friend" Ok For Now.

On the bright side, Darogh's choice was made a lot easier. Phat Beatz was pulled out from the box, and Darogh bestowed him with the power of Toxic earned from the Gym challenge.

A hard day's work over with, Darogh healed his team and rested up at the Pokémon Center, ready to tackle his next challenge - the Safari Zone - tomorrow.
