So I Just Saw My Little Pony The Movie (Non-Spoilers) · 8:52pm Oct 6th, 2017
Personally I thought it was a good movie. I enjoyed it from beginning to end and even got a little emotional at some moments in the movie. While it is not the best movie out there I'd say that its better than any other MLP movie that has existed and I think that's more than enough considering the intended audience for this franchise.
Firstly, the animation is by far the best thing in this movie. It is so beautiful and vibrant and just great to look at. It also doesn't shy away from more gritty colors too which makes a great contrast against our main characters pastel look. As someone who took lessons in 2D animation, you can definitely appreciate the effort put into it.
The movie in many respects remind me of the Simpsons Movie. I know, a weird comparison but when something like a TV show has its own theatrical movie, you can see just how much bigger it feels and how much more grander it is. It's hard to explain but I just love movies that do that.
Plot wise I won't spoil but it's nothing overly complicated and is pretty straight forward. While they're some new characters that I felt were underdeveloped and one or two I wished they picked a different voice actor/actress for and some moments that felt a little too rushed, it didn't really detract from the story at all for me. In fact it did feel like how the show would act so I guess its really only a minor nit pick.
Now I may be spoiling this or maybe not but Starlight Glimmer is not a central character, in fact she doesn't have a speaking role. You only see her in one shot and that's it. But don't be upset because of that, this movie is all about the Mane 6 plus Spike and it's no surprise that they are the same ponies that we know and love from the show.
Now I will say that it would be best to see this show probably up to season six before watching this movie as it is intended for an audience who has seen it and know why Twilight is an alicorn princess or some of the background ponies seen throughout.
Again this isn't the greatest movie ever made and there will probably be some who will not like it for their own reasons, but I do highly recommend seeing this film since its an impressive movie from a show originally intended for little girls.
