Before I talk about the story, I want to share a bizarre piece of news I just learned:
Future Progressive will be finishing soon.
That's "soon" as in "within a small number of additions to it". It turns out, there's a hard 10k character limit on story descriptions, and with as many descriptions as are in the collection, that limit was reached today. D: An hour of work I hadn't planned on later, and I've pared it back to give myself space for maybe three more stories, tops. After which, I will have to start a new minific collection.
So my very important question is: Do you remember me ever saying I had a title in mind for a second collection?
Because I feel like I did once, and if I ever said it to anyone, it would be one of you kind people. Who might actually remember it. Otherwise, it'll be "Past Conditional" or something, to carry on the theme. :B Okay, story time.
So like I said in the A/N, this story was meant as an explanation for the Flim-Flam Brothers. I liked the idea that they were related to Applejack, and the chance to give her some tragic backstory that she wouldn't even know. Backstory I can't hang on the precious fruits we have been given in her canon parents. D:
That said, for being written in 2012 -- and lacking a few things pointed out by fellow Writeoffers, that I didn't end up incorporating because I waited too long to publish this -- this is really good. Like, I haven't read it in five years, and I was kind of impressed by the writing itself. If nothing else, this is about the sexiest thing I've ever written, and it's only T-rated!
2012 is long enough ago that I was still referring to it as "the /fic/ Writeoff". c.c And, sadly, the original threads are gone, which means I can't share the cool image of the Stetson lying against the boater hat that I based the whole thing off of. At least, I think that was one of the prompts for that contest, but I literally have no idea.
Anyway, I hope folks enjoy this look at what AJ's parents might have been, long, long ago. Don't know what I'll be doing next.
Couldn't you just move the descriptions to a table of contents chapter? Granted, that would mess up links to specific chapters...
