New Story I'm Going to Post Even Though I'm Not Sure it's a Good Idea to, Old Story, and Even Older Story · 2:22am Sep 4th, 2017
I'll be posting a couple of new stories soon, as well as linking to an old one. Join me below the break for a few brief thoughts on them.
I'll take them in reverse order. The even older story is one I keep forgetting I even wrote. At the time, I was part of a secret cabal that was going to infiltrate FiMFiction to prove a point, which immediately became moot due to a change in site operations. So we no longer had a point to make. The idea was for a group of authors to post stories under a single account, but when our purpose dissolved, we just ended up posting what we'd written for it under our own accounts. The single exception is this one, which Roger Dodger essentially dared me to write. Filler and Cassius added some tweaks, too. It came at the height of the "Luna Does X" frenzy. And without further ado, I present "Luna Beats a Dead Horse."
The story that's only kind of old is from my pile of unrevised Writeoff Association entries, and I finally got around to un-unrevising it. Not much to say about it, other than I'll put it up pretty soon, once all the Sunset shipping stories start draining out of the feature box. Well, one more thing. I'll also say that it's about an impending war between the ponies and griffons.
The new one. I'm not really comfortable posting it, but leaving it as a GDoc nobody will ever see doesn't seem quite right, either. FiMFic only has an option for sequels, not side stories, and this isn't really either one, but it's closer to a side story, I guess. It's kind of a spiritual successor to "My Domestic Equestria," but not a continuation of it in any way. If there's anything making me less nervous about posting it, it's the fact that very few people will read it. I'll put it up sometime soon-ish, maybe this week. I think.
I vaguely remember this, but I don't remember what point it was trying to prove. I think it was the successor to LOEG?
I'm glad you're posting that AJ fic, I do think it's a truly beautiful piece. and fuck what others think.
"Ha!" declared Luna. She picked up her checker and hopped it across the board, landing it on the last row with a triumphant, "Princess me!"
Death scowled and lit his skeletal horn, floating over one of the few checkers he had managed to capture and putting it on top of hers. "Best two out of three?" he wheezed through skeletal ribs.

If you'd heard of it, it most likely would have been through Alexstrazsa, since we consulted him, and he told us we wouldn't be breaking any site rules by doing it. But I don't know if you were associated with site staff that long ago.
The idea was that the feature box algorithm was very simplistic at the time, and there were fewer slots in it, so they were constantly dominated by X popular author putting out yet another story, Y epic story getting another update, or Z author who put out stories at just the right interval to have the old one's popularity bridge to the new one. And that's how we were going to do it: have a bunch of stories ready beforehand that had already been quality-checked enough to be likely accepted on EqD, and submit them at the rate of about 2 per week, then use the EqD posts to push us in the feature box. We had enough stories to sustain that posting rate for about 2 months, and we wanted to show that we could manipulate the feature box and stay in it for a solid month or more. But then they changed a bunch of site rules, including expanding the feature box to 10 stories, restricting story updates to only 3 of those slots, and changing what criteria got a story featured. That was intended to make it so that a larger variety of authors could get featured, and it ended up working fairly well, to the point we didn't really have an argument anymore.

I think I might've just heard murmurings from other involved people. I dunno. It's a vague memory at best ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I've shied away from writing sequels for that same reason, that almost nobody will end up reading them… but I'm probably going to write a few more anyway, just because I want them out of my head and on virtual paper

It's not so much that it's a sequel. More that I don't think the subject matter or delivery will appeal to many people. It's a very different story. Basically, I don't think anyone but friends of mine will care about it.
Oh no, I'm afraid it's going to be a sad story about your son growing out of FiM. Regardless I'm sure it will be beautiful.

Well, for as silly as the feature box can still be at times, I'm glad at least that it's however much better than it once was. Funny that your secret cabal was ultimately, if indirectly, successful.

We're kinda going through this with our kiddo who first got me into Pony. It's not as much a hard defection as a long and soft one, but it continues apace. Perhaps the movie will resurrect some interest...

Nah, my son still likes the show. He still wants to play pony stuff, but it's with me using the pony toys and him using Legos. He has gotten a bit self-conscious about liking the show, but it hasn't stopped him watching. A girl he's known since preschool is a big fan, and so is her little sister, so we're all going to see the movie together. I did save some notes on the pony stuff we played after I finished this story in case I ever wanted to write another chapter, but there's nothing really new.
4659585 That's a relief!
You have me intrigued, Pasco.
I thought MDE was really interesting, so I'm looking forward to that new fic
That was some good horse beating, son. :V
