First Original Manuscript Sent to Publisher. Fingers Crossed · 2:41am Sep 3rd, 2017
As the title suggests, I have recently sent a portion of a fully complete manuscript to a local publisher for my first original novel. The wait is approximately three months to hear a response. Hopefully in that time they'll request the full manuscript and offer a deal, since thats the dream, right?
I'll include my Query Letter below, which is a short blurb/pitch, not unlike what you'd read on the dust jacket or back cover of a book to encourage you to read. I'd love to hear what people think.
Katrina Cortes has wanted to be a knight since she was twelve. What she ended up being was a witch. Once the Inquisition stepped in, she was forced to put her magic aside or else meet with the headsman. The probation might have worked in the long run, but the Inquisition didn’t account for Katrina witnessing a kidnapping by a shadow of a small child. What’s worse is the shadow seems to know her.
Either the Inquisition will drag Katrina to the pyre, or the monster she’s chasing will save them the trouble, but she’ll be damned if she dies with any more blood on her hands. Even if it means reconnecting with Lucco, the smart-mouthed, cigar-smoking, lecherous raccoon who got her into this life in the first place. In the witch’s business, you don’t get to choose your sponsor.
While tracking down the shadow, saving Lucco’s hide from being skinned by devils, and keeping her only mortal friend from getting killed, Katrina starts seeing more monsters than just the one she’s chasing. Monsters of the life she was forced to leave behind, before they almost destroyed her.
I love that. Those three paragraphs already make me wish I had the story in front of me.
