To Change a Changeling Mini-Review · 5:40pm Sep 2nd, 2017
I'm gonna try something a little different, since I'm hard pressed for time and want to get as much done today as I possibly can. I'm gonna give a brief summary of what I liked and didn't like about the episode. And trust me, there's a lot to like, here. So here we go!
*takes a deep breath*
Exploring the changeling hive is always nice, Pharynx is a joy to behold, I actually like his reformed design more than his not-reformed design (the red parts just don't do it for me), seeing them interact as brothers in that flashback was nice to see if only because changeling dynamics are something not before explored, the maulwurf was an interesting concept for a monster (also, I like the pun: MAULwurf? Eh? Ehhh?), seeing the changelings act as a group actually makes it slightly more plausible for them to be the former greatest threat to Equestria... But I have to say, Starlight's decision to lead the monster so Pharynx could stop it just reeked of "Nice job, dickface!" And Trixie was pretty much as bad as she was in "All Bottled Up", if not worse. She doesn't even get any cathartic slapstick punishment this time around; she just stands there, snarks, at least she tried to fight off the monster, but still.
Regardless, the moral of the episode was one I can get behind: just because someone is different doesn't mean they don't belong. In fact, they actually have a place. And the episode's right; peace and harmony mean jack all if you aren't willing to defend it and those you love. It's for that reason I started writing fanfiction in the first place, and it's for that reason I'll continue.
On that note, I'm finally out of my writing funk. For really reals, this time. And I don't wanna make any promises, but I assure you, I'm still hard at work on Starfleet Redone Episode 3.
I havent seen the episode, but speaking of pacifism, I think doing nothing when there's danger is not pacifism, its just passive violence.
Looking forward to next episode
