Chapter 5: A Deleted Conversation · 3:09am Aug 19th, 2017

Hey guys, almost done with Chapter 5. Been flipping back and forth between it and Chapters 6 and 7, so maybe those will come out faster...?

Anyway, I have this half-baked part from the outline that just isn't doing it for me, and turned into some unintentional author diatribe about abolishing capitalism and democracy or some shit like that. I'm gonna post it here so you all can see what things look like right now for most of the story, because this is pretty much what I mean when I say "The chapter's events are written out, but not complete"

  • She’s one of the best designers in equestria
  • “Oh... But I don’t have any currency... How much does your society employ currency?”
  • “Oh, don’t worry, I’m sure she’ll be more than willing to make it as a gift, and if she’s not, I have plenty of money to pay for whatever you need.  As for a currency system, Equestria uses bits, given for activities of public interest, such as construction, defense, education, and animal tending, as a means of compensation, and used to track value.”
  • I nodded, “That sounds like a fairly straight forward system... How have you dealt with the power-gap created by capitalist markets and wealth inequality?  My homeworld attempted to combine Capitalism with Democracy, which lead to massive breakdowns in societies that lacked strong collectivist mentalities.”
  • Twilight nodded slowly, cringing a little at the word ‘democracy’, “Oh... Yes, I can see that being a problem... Thankfully, we have a Monarchic system of wise immortal rulers delegating through Feudal holdings and elected representatives.”
  • My eyes widened as I slowed a bit, forgetting to walk as I drew a blank, vaguely remembering the conspiratorial cabal of reptilian beings who secretly controlled the governments of my homeworld.  “You have... Openly immortal rulers?”
  • Twilight nodded, “Yes.  Actually, I recently became one of them!” she smiled, “I’m... a bit new at it though, so I try to leave the hands-on processes to my mentor, Princess Celestia.  She’s at least a thousand years old, an expert on negotiation and magical theory, and controls the motion of the sun.  You might actually get to meet her in a few days!”  She beamed.
  • I stumbled to find a reaction for this.  Two possibilities occurred to me, with the truth probably somewhere between them...
  • One, a set of rulers had managed to cow the populace into believing they were of godlike power and benevolent, and were now teaching the others, including their lieutenant, Twilight, that they were responsible for the natural motion of the sun. (it was unlikely that Twilight was actively trying to deceive me)
  • Two.... I had stumbled upon a universe with far more magical potential, and a civilization that was potentially far more advanced than my own: I couldn’t even fathom the logistics of controlling the rotation of a planet, let alone the way Twilight had said it as if she was literally moving a goddamn star.
  • Twilight had slowed as well, looking back at me for a response.
  • “Well then...” I replied cryptically, “I suppose I look forward to meeting such... interesting ponies...”
  • She smiled, “I’m guessing whoever moves the sun on your world isn’t too accessible?”
  • “Um... We’ll have to talk about it later.  I don’t have the contextual information for a proper response.”  It wasn’t entirely true, but I wasn’t sure what would happen if I told her information about the physics of my homeworld which called into question the rulers of her own.

Twilight kept her smile, taking on a more reassuring tone, “Alright Meta, take your time.” she glanced ahead, pointing, “Rarity’s shop is just around the corner!”
