Eye of the Storm: Chapter 30 · 12:56am Aug 16th, 2017
At 8,658 words, it is now the longest chapter in the story and also the longest chapter in the series so far. Had I not decided to split up the end of it into chapter 31, it would have been MUCH longer, but frankly I'm glad I didn't for a multitude of reasons.
One, even though it took me five days to write and revise it, I was having a lot of trouble with this chapter and I don't exactly know why. I have been feeling that way with a lot of my recent chapters. For some reason I believe it has to do with the fact that first person POV is moderately tougher for me to write.
Two, there would have been an enormous balance cliff. If I continued the chapter to be what I originally expected, it'd have gone well over probably 12-13k words, followed by a chapter that may only end up being just over 3k. While that probably isn't much of an issue, it feels wrong anyhow.
And lastly, I dunno, I felt like despite the word count, there isn't much that is actually covered in the chapter. I'm slowly feeling like my Millennia stories are becoming repetitive and boring, especially after starting Eye of the Storm where I have since lost a major reader base in between it and Beginning. I still plan to finish EoTS nonetheless and eventually get to work on Starfall later next year, but I'm just hoping that I'm not falling into a hole with my writing.
As such, chapter 31 might not come for a little while even though I expect it to be around half the length. This is because I'm gonna be taking a break for a couple of days to catch up on other stuff.
