    What I would do differently

As my main account announced, the Shooting stars fic is done and cancelled. And in it's place is something new. At the same time, a certain writer released season 10 of starfleet. and that got me thinking...what would I do differently.

OOOPS! Sorry, kind of forgot about something important.

Sorry, but when your dream (A Sonic movie that did well and made big) came true you kind of frogot. Well, that and having some fun on other sites picking apart some new targets. And weapon making.

    More on weapon making later.

    Evolution new chapter!

Yay, a new chapter. No, I havent' watched all of the finale though I was spoiled and it ended the way I wanted it to.

But, you are probably wondering why it took me over a year to finish. Well, it's a long story, and no it doesn't really have anything to do with my burnout or annoyance.

Plot Holes and EQG part 1 · 6:21pm Aug 12th, 2017

Hi kids, while we await for my editors to finish the latest chapter

That's right, work Slaves! Work, Muhahahaha!!!!!!!!

I want to talk plots holes and the 1st Equestria girls movie. No, not about the movie itself, I mean the movie of Starfleet and a lot of the problems that kind of arise from that one movie alone. Now, I already said what would help improve the plot (Military academy, wich would match up with the fact that Unicorpia is a different world than Equestria and would also allow for the cast to come from different countries. For the record: Artie is french on his mom's side, Rhymey is italian, Starla is greek, and Buddy is an american.) but this movie alone has more plot holes than anything else. Especially revolving around my fave girl from the movies.

You know...

This cutie!

Hey, can we get her in human mode please?

One not as cute?

There we go!!!!

See, there is a problem with Sunset's character between this movie and the cannon. Mainly, they really don't match up at all. Like, real Sunset would dominate the weaker Sunset. Now, I wouldn't have a problem with Sunset not matching up with cannon, it's Starfleet after all, asking for the characters to match up with their cannon personalities is akin to asking for rain in the desert. It's rare. But the thing is, the Sunset in the EQG starfleet story is so removed from her EQG self it isn't even funny.

Let's start off with the fact that the moment she sees Lighting, her first idea is to seduce him to bring him over to the popular side. What?! Let's not forget, this girl was a user before the rainbow attack, the only reason why she would care about Lighting would be how she could benfit from from him. She would not care if he said "I don't want to join your group."

Hell, she never even had a group, she had minions. In the movie, we see that she didn't really see anyone there as a group to join her, that would imply that she would think that someone could be equal with her. She doesn't, as you can see as she demeans others, sabotage Rarity at the spring fling, and does everything she can to make sure she wins. Other than looking good or is the new guy, whqat benefit did having Lighting there serve her? Heck, even later when he shows his super strenght, she wouldn't want him to be her boyfriend...she would want the super powers.

This is an important lesson that I get when I see the first EQG movie, when you think Sunset, think nega Twilight. Modesty? Not for her. Thinks others are her equals? Then demean and remind them that they are inferior.

So, how on earth could Sunset here, who wants Lighting to join her, match up to the manipulative, cunning, and tricky Sunset who probably accidentally caused a student to commit suicide in the EQG movie (Hey, don't think it didn't happen. She might have not even realized it when she did it.) For that matter, if these students: i.e the kids raised by GR, are so high up, then why didn't she break them up or mess with them? Why did she leave them alone when she had a prime target ready for the kill?

I am in the middle of rereading the riff of the first movie so I will have more to say about her and the big plot holes as I encounter them. Until then...

Life and death, heroes and villians, isn't it all just a game for the gods to play?

Applejack walks to a round table and looks at all of her friends, "If we are gonna win this thing, we need something big."

"LEt's beat down a god," Rainbow Suggested.

In this little world of ours, who holds the pieces

"You play this game well my dear," Titan said, leaning back and looking at the figure in front of him. "Your move

And who owns the board

Dimentia smiles at Titan and fistbumps him, "See ya on the other side." she then jumps off a building.

Soon, five will stand tall for life

Rarity smiles, looking at the crib

Love

"Come on flutters, let's dance" Dash said smiling, taking Fluttershy; hand.

"Oh Dasshie."

Glory

"It's hard you know," Pinkie whispered, looking back at the hospital, "Smiling all the time."

And destiny

"Come then, oh elements! Show me the true power of your friendship!!!!" Titan bellowed.

Coming soon, the next chapter of Fall of Starfleet.

Heroes stand strong

Twilight Sparkle stares down at Raven as lighting crashes around her, "I'm taking you in, Raven."

PS. Why did Lighting want to blab to the world he was an alicorn, that still doens't make sense.

This is a really good analysis. I always love reading about you tearing Mykan's "writing" at the seems, even more so because I adore Sunset Shimmer.

The next chapter of Fall of Starfleet is going to be amazing!

Thanks. In between the riffs and mocks I do, I also really love sitting down a story and anylizing what makes it bad or good and what I can improve on it. I also love looking into a character's body and what makes them tick.

Personally I think it's his clear aversion to girl power. He seems to think a female villain is only ever interested in...
a. Her beauty
or
b. Getting to be the hero's girlfriend
And likewise, a female hero needs to be a complete doormat.
There are exceptions to this but only in so far as them having no character at all
(Cough-Shaina-Cough-Cerise Wonder-Cough-Melantha-Sarcastic Cough!)
I suppose it's to be expected when his heroes all seem to be Son Goku if he had the personality of Draco Malfoy.

Yeah, and the moment Sunset turned into a good girl in RR, she suddently turned into the weak one. Wich is why I am still surprised she got the red ranger powers.

sunset is one of those characters that sucks as a villain but makes one wonderful hero.
I know you can keep up with her greatness

I've often thought that the problem with Sunset Shimmer in the first Starfleet Humans fic is due to the transition from using the template of girl-focussed high school movie to boy-focussed high school movie.

Generalising insanely, girl focussed high school movies feature two girls and one boy: there's the good girl, who is shy and demure and probably wears glasses and a frumpy hairstyle but that's okay because her inner beauty shines through (meaning the actress is smoking hot and there's no getting around that); there is the bad girl Queen Bitch who rules the school and wears short skirts and brassy colours, and then there is the Hottest Guy in School over whom they fight. And then the whole things end on Prom Night when the Good Girl gets the Boy and the Homecoming Crown and Bad Girl is utterly defeated.

That's pretty much how Equestria Girls goes (although it was left to Sci-Twi to wear glasses an an unsexy hairstyle), but the inclusion of the magical elements complicate it so that it is possession of the crown, not the guy, which is the victory marker; and this, and the continued friendship focus with the Humane Five, is why Flash Sentry feels so pointless in the story.

Starfleet Humans, on the other hand, is a boy-focussed high school movie and in those movies there are two boys and two girls. For the boys, there is the cool, rebellious out-of-towner who shakes things up, butts heads with the principal and teaches all the kids to have fun; and then there is the asshole jock hates him because the story needs a villain. For the girls, you have the Good Girl and the Bad Girl again, with Starla as the Good Girl who waits patiently for the boy to notice her pining for him.

Starfleet Humans adheres to this template almost exactly. That's why Celestia is in such a foul temper for the entire story, that's why Flash is evil, that's why Lightning is suddenly cool and rebellious even though his previous characterisation is hidebound by rules and regulations and that's why Sunset tries to seduce Lightning, because that's what the Bad Girl does in these movies...except that most movies would at least allow her to succeed for a little while before the hero realises that she's no good. But that would make Lightning a flawed character and we can't have that, no sir.

Also, next chapter sounds great...but it also sounds like the story could be ending soon.

Twilight and Raven? Get hype!

That was a really good analysis. I agree with you, God forbid that Mykan's OCs have any flaws that would make them more interesting than paper plates.

4632794

Let's just think of this as the opening gun of the final arc. All the pieces are set now, the final battles are ready, and the plot points I have been waiting to get to for 4 years now are all ready.

Interestingly enough, by do what he does in this story...Mykan inadvertanally makes Lighting Dawn a worse character than he was in the normal stories. Going so far as to start to fall for the alt version of his girlfriend/wife (Does that count as cheating? I know of superhero stories that dealt with this and the alt verse version is usually not very happy) and comes off as so much as a jerk that even I feel like he is OOC.

Oh, I have to break this down because this is an awesome discussion.

the transition from using the template of girl-focussed high school movie to boy-focussed high school movie.

What's sad is that I have watched enough DCOMs (Disney channel original movies) and Disney sitcoms (My new fave is Ali-mack, that is some seriously good drama there.) that I can actually confirm a lot of this.

 there's the good girl, who is shy and demure and probably wears glasses and a frumpy hairstyle but that's okay because her inner beauty shines through (meaning the actress is smoking hot and there's no getting around that);

Speaking of wich, one of the things that annoys me about the fic is that Starla is picked on...for being what? Gorgeous like Rarity? Alone and aloof (Personally, I know of some guys who will go gaga for that kind of thing) Or for being just there? It reminds me of how the Nostalgia Critic made fun of the third Care Bears girl by pointing out she is actually very nice looking while she bemoaned the fact that she wasn't special.

there is the bad girl Queen Bitch who rules the school and wears short skirts and brassy colours, and then there is the Hottest Guy in School over whom they fight

Interestingly enough, this is making me think of one of the things I love about Lizzie Mcguire (Beyond everything else) is that the rich bitch there, Kate, is shown to have a few extra sides to her personality and the dumb jock isn't really all that worth it.

And then the whole things end on Prom Night when the Good Girl gets the Boy and the Homecoming Crown and Bad Girl is utterly defeated.

Complete with MAKEOVER MONTAGE!!!!

It's one of the things I like about the movie and sometimes confuses me about a certain critism I read. They mention a love triangle between Flash-Sunset-Twilight, but the movie never really shows Sunset giving a damn about him making gogo eyes at Twilight. All she cares for, all she wants, is power and nothing more. She couldn't care less about Flash and pretty much ignores him.

It's almost like the writers just wanted to play around with the good looking guy trope (And even more, how he dominates the plot in some of the magical girl stories. I am looking at you WINX. Couldn't spend five minutes developing Tecna and Flora could you or have some good friendship moments? You had to ruin it with the Red Fountain boys.) and just have him there. Kind of like a rocknroll version of Josh Mankey. Though I bet he wanted to be more like the male leads of W.I.T.C.H and actually be involved in the plot (I only mentin W.I.T.C.H because Greg Cripes, voice of Beast Boy and Lighting Dawn is in there as Caleb)

In conterast, they decide to focus on the important theme of friendship. Somethin I love about it dearly as it showed that the prom couldn've been really anything. Like the awesome fic Duelest of the Autumn Crown. Hell it could've been a math quiz and the plot would've remained the same. In fact, this template you brought out makes me think of how this is kind of just a short term magical girl story, complete with monster big bad in the end.

Starfleet Humans, on the other hand, is a boy-focussed high school movie and in those movies there are two boys and two girls. For the boys, there is the cool, rebellious out-of-towner who shakes things up, butts heads with the principal and teaches all the kids to have fun;

Aw man, the story should've been like Footloose.

and then there is the asshole jock hates him because the story needs a villain

And there is Flash. Wich, again, runs counter to the just 'nice guy' we see throughout the story. A guy who is just there and waves hi to everyone he meets. You also forgot goofy idoit sidekick.

For the girls, you have the Good Girl and the Bad Girl again, with Starla as the Good Girl who waits patiently for the boy to notice her pining for him.

Wich, sadly, has the unfortunate fact that it makes Lighting into a man whore who will go out with you if you happen to look like Starla and Starla into a little slut who will kiss Lighting in spite that she knows he's married. Then will go after the older man.

Starfleet Humans adheres to this template almost exactly. That's why Celestia is in such a foul temper for the entire story, that's why Flash is evil, that's why Lightning is suddenly cool and rebellious even though his previous characterisation is hidebound by rules and regulations and that's why Sunset tries to seduce Lightning, because that's what the Bad Girl does in these movies...except that most movies would at least allow her to succeed for a little while before the hero realises that she's no good

Oh sweet Celestia this makes so much sense! Yeah, and I can see it so much in this. And of course, it clashes with everyone of their characterizations, and gives me a giant headache!!!!

Mykan can't even do that considering nothing comes from Lightning's terrible behavior (nothing realistic anyway). I agree with you though that somehow Mykan managed to make a one-note character act out of character.

There was a riff of Mykan's movie? Where can I find it?

Also I can see where you are going with this. Sunset is a manipulative person, but due to being mishandled by a dense writer, her characterization got butchered. I would be sincerely impressed by Mykan's stories if it was honest with its themes. It would be nice to see a high school fic that focuses on an immoral protagonist hiding behind a virtuous mask, as he charms his way to get what he wants, not by his pretty face but by his charisma, leading sheep to the Grand Ruler's cause.

Lightning does have this smug air in common to an indoctrinated citizen living in a fascist nation.

So far there are complete riffs for Starfleet Humans and Starfleet Humans: Starpops.

My personal favorite is the second one, mainly because of Rainbow Rocks.

Very smug, almost to the point where he is OOC. To tell the truth, Lighting is more akin to Garfield from the Teen Titan HSM fics than his cannon self.

I also agree here, it feels like he is having people join the Grand Ruler side of things through his superiorty and power than anything else. Its a little scary and quite frankly evil.

I see, I didn't know that about Lightning, I must confess, I'm not masochistic enough to read another Mykan fic, so I wasn't aware of their meager characterization differences. I'll try reading it and see what i can find out. Lightning's personality muddied the waters for me, that even if one author portrays him as sympathetic, I can't look at him in a likable way.
