Season 5 Episode 14: Sassy Saddles looks like she stepped off Sex and the City · 10:55pm Jul 20th, 2017
Strawberry Cinnamon Cilantro Cupcakes. And people wonder why I make Pinkie have some weird flavor combinations in stories where she bakes.
Sassy Saddles looks like Sarah Jessica Parker.
And okay she's a bit much and its what five minutes in? Oh boy. I love Rarity, I do. I hate her episodes cause there's only so much you can do in a Y-Y7 show with the fashion industry.
And Sassy stealing Rarity's thunder at the Grand Opening? That's both a bad move and adorable. Especially since it gives Rarirty the chance to have a BSOD for the sheer gall of Sassy. Seriously she's kind of a complete tool. But don't worry cause its MLP, she's going to be fine. Wouldn't she have been fired if she ran all the coolest boutiques and she did this kind of garbage.
Oh boy, if her resume is fake, I'd buy it.
Dude that pony that's male and has a high pitched voice and looks like a gay fashion model has to be super gay. That's what shows do. I like seeing characters that are similar to me but please if you write a character, even a small one, that I can't pick out from either being a fashion model/ stereotype of fans or flaming gay its bad.
But yeah. I like seeing characters that are like me. It just so happens that whenever I watch a show that has one- its either waving the gayness in your face, barely commenting on it, having them be comic relief, or you know making them be psychopathic murderers.
Oh but back to the actual episode, so yeah burn out the fashion mogul. Who is shown to be a perfectionist and like singular dresses thanks to the creativity that that provides her. Oh man that guilt trip music. Oh and Sassy taking over the business while Rarity, who put int the money that she had earned throughout seasons becomes a glorified seamstress. I know the writers sometimes run with stereotypes but this is a bit much. I want to like the character by the end. Like Starlight Glimmer. Oh wait, that seems to have taken 2 seasons while her redemption took 3 minutes or less.
Also this is why I hate seeing Canterlot and Manehattan now. Let's make an entire city a rich stereotype. Or super aristocratic douchebags. I mean Celestia is a Sun Princess but she's not the Sun King ruling Versailles. Seems like they are running a cult of personality cause she's lived for forever but she's not making them inveterate horrible people.
Funny how maybe the loci of magic and understanding might be making people close to her worse off. Or is that because Celestia is no longer connected to the Elements and so she doesn't have control over the hearts and minds of her people. Which would either take in the way of being sad or horrifying if she was making her reign be more loved by emotional control through her presence and connection to what brings literal Harmony. Shit that's kind of messed up.
And Rarity now has crippling depression by finding out she's a slave to the design. Guess she should regain the means of production. This is some Dr. Seuss level story where everyone wants to be a Princess in that dress but by everyone having that dress, no one is special.
Oh and now we have a parody of fast fashion retailers who sell like a lot of clothes but in horrible sweatshop ways.
There is now an emo pony that sounds like Raven from Teen Titans. And now a 90s girl pony? And a fat pony.
Just why. I get the idea but it doesn't look right on the character model. Especially since we've only seen on model pony body types for the last five seasons. And its a fat joke like what does that even serve? The last lines are really weird. Fat pony asks if they have the Princess dress, they say no, and they start laughing, Fat pony looks at them confused and walks off.
They did a fat joke and that seems weirdly unfriendly in a show about friendship. Not the worst Rarity episode, still have to say the overall worst Rarity episode is the Manehattan one even if it gave us Coco "I'm bloody adorable" Pommel.
This is fine, if a bit weirdly sad and kind of mean.
