What sets off your compassion alarm? · 2:34am Jul 3rd, 2017

More precisely, regarding the suffering people around the world, what most calls you to take a stand? The homeless beggar with a tin cup outside the theater? A deaf, mute, lame, blind, or paralyzed person? How about child slavery and abuse? Where do you stand on those suffering with AIDS, cancer, diabetes, MS, shingles, and other terrible maladies? What about poverty in foreign countries? What would you do if you encountered someone with an awful skin disease, or who is starving? In short, who do you feel most compassionate about?

And what about different things, like which age group do you speak to most easily? Are you more at home with war veterans or kids on the playground? Do you like hanging around foreign exchange students or are you more at home with family, pun intended? Do you get along better with peers or bikers? Do you prefer to go out hiking with a pal or bowling?

You answers will reveal more to yourself than to anyone else. God has set each of us on this Earth with a reason, with the ability to communicate and to reveal His will to various people. However, He also sets each of us apart. According to the Bible, God has given each of us different gifts for doing certain things well (Romans 12:6), as well as fashioning our hearts individually (Psalm 33:13, 15).

When the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples in Acts 2, people of various backgrounds and from very different homelands each heard God's word being preached in their own languages. Considering that there were 120 individual followers of Jesus present, that means that this was all being said in 10 different languages. Some people cynically tried to brush this off as early morning drunkenness, but it was obvious to most people that this was a miracle. Peter's speech of Acts 2:14-36, given in the presence of the Holy Spirit, confirmed that. Thousands of people heard God's message and were saved that day.

God cares for all people of all backgrounds. It doesn't matter whether you live in Alaska or Greece, or whether one might be a business executive, lawyer, professional wrestler, biker, addict, or minister. God loves you. And He has specific plans for you, your future, and how that future entwines with the future of other people. God commissions people from all peoples and cultures. We all have a specific calling, and a specific audience to reach out to. That's not to say that we should cut people not in those audiences out of our lives or that our compassion should stop there, but we have a job to do.

One person can't do everything. But everyone in the world has the ability to do something. What something are you best equipped to do?

I can't claim to have thought this up by myself; I give credit to Max Lucado and his book Outlive your Life, and to God through him and his work.

Thanks for reading, and May God go with you all :ajsmug::twilightsmile::raritystarry::pinkiehappy::rainbowdetermined2::yay:

Believe it or not, I feel compassion for those who are not quite like me. As in, they have special needs. A crazy thing is, when I was four I was playing on the playground. I was apparently playing with this one kid who had autism. His mother came to mom and ask if I was her daughter. My mom was scared I did something wrong and started apologizing. The woman said that it wasnt that, it was that her son had NEVER played with anyone before. He hated interacting with anyone but his parents. The fact that he regarded me his 'best friend' completely shocked her. Ever since then kids like that have regarded me like that likewise, and so I have extreme compassion for them because I know people are going to be absolute jerks to them.
True story btw.

That was really nice. Autistic kids need all the help they can get

Thanks for putting some smiles on some faces :pinkiehappy: as well as for talking about this. I'm glad.

May God go with you :rainbowdetermined2:
