It Could've Been Great: Cutie Remark · 1:36am Jun 29th, 2017
Kurusagi here, bringing you another installment of "It Could've Been Great". Now, I'm just gonna say it, I didn't like the season 5 finale. I mean, some of the ideas were interesting with the alternate universes, but honestly, it seemed kinda pointless. Not only that, but I really didn't like the backstory they slapped on for Starlight. I mean, really? A friend gets their cutie mark, and you decide to become an evil dictator? I guess this point ticks me off because Starlight could've made some effort or attempt to reconnect with her friend or something, and yet, she chose not to. That being said, here's my idea for how the episode could've been like.
Starlight confronts Twilight and traps her in an alternate world in which she'd never left Canterlot, became a princess, and met her friends. Twilight then works to escape from the illusion and find Starlight (who had returned to running her old village in the AU world). Twilight questions Starlight's motives for her actions, and learns about Starlight's backstory. Twilight points out that Starlight had other options, but Starlight isn't convinced. Twilight then shows Starlight different scenarios of what could've happened between her and Sunburst. Twilight then tells Starlight that if she wants, she can still reconnect with her childhood friend. Starlight is hesitant, worried that it's too late for her, but Twilight assures her that she does have a chance. They escape the AU and Twilight helps her find a now older Sunburst. Starlight and Sunburst talk and arrange to hang out and catch up later. Starlight apologizes for her actions and thanks Twilight for helping her see the light. Twilight then offers to take Starlight on as a student and to help teach her the ins and outs of friendship.
Sorry if it sounds kinda rough and vague. But honestly, I think that Starlight creating an AU takes away some of the seriousness of her messing with the fabric of space time. This way, Twilight can focus on getting back to the real world and dealing with Starlight's misplaced anger issues.
