Scene Separators, and Other functionalities: An Informative Guide to my Writing · 12:55pm Jun 9th, 2017
Hello all! It is about time I do something like this. For the next few weeks (possibly) I’ll be doing these little guides to my writing. What these will entail is little bits and bops that I do in my writing. Most of which can be figured out by looking at them... but this is a clear guide, and will basically be the rules that I follow for them. Worded a little wrong, but I’ll leave it... anyway. Below the break I will talk about... well what the title talks about: line breaks, or whatever they are called (I’m forgetful... sorry).
The first one:
Time Skips/Scene Shift (--- --- ---)
Time skips are used to well... mark the passing of time, but normally it will be for when something is not being shown. Things that can change about this are the uses of also being a scene changer. When I move to a different scene. (Note: the characters will remain the same, or at least the character the story is following at the time.)
The second one:
Perspective Swap (* * *)
A Perspective swap denounces when the story switches perspectives. What will normally follow it is a label of the character the story will now follow; the obvious bypass to this is when a story is in a third person perspective. (Note: this will be the time skip in any [Fallout: Equestria] stories.)
The third one:
Dream State/Memories (~ ~ ~)
Whenever a character starts dreaming, or goes into a flashback this will be used. Whenever there is a scene shift in the dream that falls under the regular Scene Shift, though it is a little looser in most cases; so you may see either used. (Note: this is one of the loosest use things under my writing style, and may need to be changed later.)
The fourth and currently final one:
Death (--^You Died^--)
This one marks when the character in the perspective (first person, possibly even second) dies. (Note: this one is currently exclusive to the Dark Ponies Series, and should not be seen in any other fic of mine.)(Second Note: there is a story in the planning stages that will also use this, but it will not be started until I have more free room for longer fics, again.)
That is all the ones that I have used, if I miss any let me know, and I can add it; or get rid of it by fixing it. If you would like to see more of these, please leave a comment asking for a specific thing you would like to know more about. And questions about anything in a fic can be answered as well (including time of the next release of a chapter... though that one might not get a very good answer, as I generally do not know).
