Judges, Unfamiliar · 6:43pm Jun 5th, 2017

Just letting you all know that I’m in the middle of an unavoidable stint of jury duty, hence my inactivity this morning. Imanaged to accidentally volunteer to go back tomorrow*, so I’ll likely be going dark for a fair stretch then as well, and possibly the rest of the week as well. And if I end up actually on a jury... well, I’ll let you know then. Suffice to say, I had no idea how accurate the Azorius Senate was when it came to representing the oh-so-slowly grinding wheels of the judicial process.

Hmm?

Oh, right, Fimfic 4.0. On the fence at the moment regarding that. A lot of the changes seem to be tradeoffs rather than strict upgrades. I suppose we’ll see how it goes. At least they fixed that story image bug.

* I was told “one trial or one week.” Then after the judge dismissed me, the guy at the jury waiting room told me to expect to be back on Wednesday or Thursday. I asked about tomorrow. He said, “Do you want to come tomorrow?” In hindsight, I had a pretty epic attack of the derps. :derpytongue2:

Heh, I actually had jury duty this past month myself. So no worries, it happens.

Triggered: You have an asterisk indicating a foot-note and no corresponding denoted foot-note later. This makes me unreasablly angry for such a small thing.

Do we have a word for "a thing that causes unreasonable anger"? Sort of like how 'phobia' is "a thing that causes unreasonable fear".

Azorius!
No, we won’t do shit, we won’t do shit
Until you get bored of us!
We’ll never end, we’ll never end

To the tune of Glorious Domination.

I had jury duty last year and very much enjoyed the experience. :pinkiehappy: Good luck!

Whoops. Fixed that; it’s explaining how I managed to accidentally volunteer.

For the love of god. Casual clothes is fine. Felt really awkward being the only one in a suit while everyone was wearing bluejeans.

Ah, jury duty. The bane of everyone’s existence. One of the few things I’m thankful being disabled exempts me from.

My experiences with jury duty are fairly light.
First time, got my letter, turned in my survey, called the day before the trial as ordered. Case postponed. Call next month on day X.
Called next month, same.
Called next month, same.
Called next month, case was settled, jury duty over, thank you for being a good citizen. Patted on head.

Next time, got letter, wife buried it in a pile of papers and didn’t tell me. Found it a week after I was supposed to report. Had heart failure. Called. They calmed me down, said it was OK, call back on date X.
Repeat of above. No trial.

I wish mine was easy! Mine was ‘Happy 21st birthday, jury duty!’ and then I end up on a criminal trial that involved multiple counts of sexual assault.

Yea, that was...a stressful 2 weeks.

Where I live it is fortunately “one day or one trial”, not a week, and unlike some other places (I understand that there’s at least one state that claims “one day or one trial” but means “call in each night for a week and we’ll tell you the night before when your day is”, but here you get to know the exact day when you get the letter).

However, I got picked as a juror, so it turned out to be a week anyway. I hope that if you are picked the subject matter is not as dark as what I was dealing with. Then again, I suspect that Morning Sun’s case meets that bar, so, sorry for leaving it lying around on the ground like that.

At one point, I had a perfect record on jury duty.

One summons.
One service.
One unanimous verdict.
One overturn.

Yay, justice!

I would still do it again and was hoping to be picked the last time I went in, but they said my last trial had been too recent and I’d been summoned by mistake: automatic dismissal.

The mobile version is infuriating, it's gone so far for minimalism that it destroys usability.

Knighty needs to read this:

By they way, I can no longer quote, dress links, embed images or videos from mobile without having the tags memorized. I don't and I don't have a help button either.

Based on what I'm seeing on my iPhone right now, hyperlinks, images, and quotes are available in that order between text colors and smilies in the menu above the text entry box. For videos, click the three-horizontal-line icon on the far right, then the camera icon in the resulting dropdown menu.

I'm afraid I have no idea what you're talking about :(
