Yeah, I missed that ETA by a mile. Sorry.
My best friend suffered from a stroke and an aneurysm a week and a half ago. When I went to see him, they said he was brain-dead. I'd never seen anyone like that. Hard to look at someone who had so much energy that they literally run up walls just lying there. And that damn beeping and the sound of air being forced into his lungs just made me so angry. They kept him alive until his family could come down from Tennessee. He passed 5/38/2017.
It was supposed to be me and him forever, you know? When he joined Boy Scouts, I weaseled my way into to follow. When I transferred middle schools, he pestered his parents to send him where I was. We've crawled through waterways, kicked gators in the teeth, tossed giant snapping turtles, caught skunks and raccoons with our bare hands, beat up armed muggers, and survived ground zero at gang shootouts.
I just don't feel like I should have lost him like this. Hell, we even took each other to prom. We thought prom was stupid, but still wanted to eat all of the food. We always joked that we'd go out together doing something dumb and epic. Instead it was something unpredictable and invisible that took him from me.
