    Well, color me impressed.

All 78 episodes on 2 discs, the translation is just as solid as the Hulu version, the subtitles are on by default, and they even translated the mid-episode character cards.

So I've been busy away from ponies... Again...

With my quest/race to get a Rainbow S on all of Freedom Planet 2's stages, my creativity lit up like a bonfire again, and I started crafting an alternate ending of sorts for the past week.

That story is now complete, and posted in its entirety over on AO3.

Has your opinion of Starlight changed? · 3:14pm May 30th, 2017

Ever since she debuted as a brilliant villain in the Season 5 premiere, multiple ingenious background appearances throughout that season, and a pulse pounding finale where she matched Twilight horn for horn and found herself redeemed, Starlight Glimmer has been quite the polarizing character. Fans either seem to love her or hate her. One former brony in my circle of friends went so far as to stop watching because of her.

So now that she's been a supporting character for more than one season, has your opinion of her changed?

For me? No. She was an amazing villain for Season 5, and there's few things I like better, in any medium, than a redeemed villain done well. While I still wish they had devoted an entire episode to her origin story, as well as her making amends with the villagers of Our Town, but other than that, it's been fantastic. While the show rarely dips into things of a romantic nature, I'd love it if her friendship with Sunburst takes that step.

The finale for Season 6 was, in my opinion, the best finale yet, inching out the Ponyball Z fight of Season 4 and the time travelling insanity of Season 5. I can't wait to see Chrysalis take the record for Most Recurring Villain, and at this point, I believe redemption for her would be the worst, cheapest thing they could do. It's time for her to get Sombra-ized. Hopefully with a combination of Thorax and Starlight. Maybe Flurry Heart too, but who knows what role she'll play in the future.

So sound off in the comments; let me know what you first thought of Starlight, and what you think of her now.

I don't really care much for Starlight Glimmer and that is largely due to her background story. 'Oh, my best friend left me so I am going to go all nuts and take away every ponies cutie mark to ensure no pony will be alone'. Yeah OK that just sounds petty and rather foolish so we now have her as a human which makes no sense at all. This is because the main five on the pony side of the statue have tried for many times to get into the human world and have been stopped by Twilight or Spike each time yet all of a sudden Starlight is allowed to cross over.

I prefer Sunset Shimmer over Starlight and would rather watch an entire episode of just Sunset Shimmer going hoof to hoof or be it hand to hand with anyone than sit through and watch starlight make a fool of herself. The episodes where Starlight is left on her own were just boring and really didn't show the character in a good light at all in fact it actually showed her acting like a complete idiot. Trixie could do a better job of that and at least we have some pretty funny episodes with her character were as Starlight is just a joke and a completely useless character. It made no sense for Twilight to ditch her friend Sunset in the last special when one of the other characters could have dealt with what ever happened that caused Twilight to leave Sunset hanging. Yeah sure we get to have Sunset meet Starlight and as far as I can tell Twilight never mentioned Starlight to Sunset so that should have created a awkward moment for both of them. But no it actually caused them to become friends.

Yeah that part in the special was just not worth seeing I would have thought that Starlight would have freaked out seeing a pony coming through the portal and completely forget how to be a pony. That alone should have made for a better special but instead we get Starlight warming up to Sunset, going over to the human world and being aloud to stay in the human world for a few days. Yeah not worth watching that again. Starlight really is just a horrible character there is no depth, no feeling to her character at all unlike Sunset you have that because you get to see her grow from villain to hero. Where as with Starlight you have one maybe three episodes at best with her showing who she is and all you really get is her messing up big time. So yes I would rather take Sunset Shimmer over Starlight Glimmer any day.

She's warming up to me, but I feel like Twilight should've done the 'right' thing and sent her away at the beginning of the new season. Encourage her to grow more, find her own way in life.

Then again, if she did, we wouldn't have gotten the great episode 10.

4552506 Indeed. Royal Problem was awesome. Plus I can't get enough of Twilight being an absolute dork.

I actually like her little character arcs and how she's been in this new season. She really feels like she wants to be a better person and is trying to be the best she can be in a personal sense. She feels like an actual personality with her own unique character that works well with almost any combination now (as seen in "All Bottled Up" and my new favorite episode, "Rock Solid Friendship") and is just as much fun to watch her now as she was when she was a "Villain" (still don't dig the fact that she just started out as just a kind of throw-off to show us alternate timelines. Seriously, that could have been a villain unto themselves, like altering time to try and destroy Equestria by any means necessary. Starlight should have had some kind of psychological debate that would have made Twilight question everything she believed in, but I digress).

Also I do hope they never reform Chrysalis. She's too much fun as a villain to end up as just some other "reformed" baddie. Discord was great, Sunset and Starlight were good, the Changed-lings kind of ruined them a bit for me, but Chrysalis would be where I draw the line.

In a word, no. My feelings about haven't changed in the slightest from the Season 5 finale.

As to why; well, 4552505 here put it much better and more eloquently than I ever could.

And as to what 4552506 said about her in their post, about her being sent away at the beginning of the new season, and being out on her own; well, I agree completely.

Nah, I still like her

I always liked her, just not most of her episodes.

I liked her as a villain, But honestly as a 'reformee' I feel she has almost no depth, and no likeability, Sure some of the story bits are nifty they are doing around her... but a nifty story just can't make up for the blah character to me. I have literally fast forwarded through some of her ultra predictable and blah parts of the show... something I had never done before. I would prefer seeing more of some of the other characters of the show. (honestly just about ANY other characters of the show), and the sheer amount of focus on Starlight lately is a real turn off for me.

Has my opinion changed about her? Yes, but for the better. At first, I just really liked her but given how much 'backlash' she got that I felt was undeserved, I decided to watch her episodes again and again to see if those critiscisms held up. They didn't. Not for me. In fact, the more I watched, the more I understood and enjoyed them even more to the point where she soon became my favorite character of the show. All of her appearances thus far I would rank as some of my favorite episodes of this series. I find her an engaging and sympathetic character and I adore watching every moment of hers.

4552516 Please tell me Killer Queen didn't touch the reply button.

Also my feelings for Starlight did change but for the better. She started out as a possible interesting villain but I hated her for the hardheadedness at first but as she developed as a character after her redemption? I enjoyed her more and more.

4552505 This is pretty much how I feel on the matter.

My discontent is also a bit more. I dislike anyone or anything that can simply overpower another who had much more training and much more effort to grow with. To have a random Unicorn suddenly outdo Twilight Sparkle in magic in every aspect bothers me. Additionally, she has proven time and time again that she is simply a replacement for Twilight and it bothers me that she is used in such a way (Sunset doesn't bug me at all because we understand where she came from how she got her power.).
On the other hand, she has been great for working with other 'redeemers' and for Royal problem. Still just bothers me mostly. It doesn't ruin the show or anything, just a constant 'tick' that keep bugging me.

Not really. Her weak backstory pretty much kills any chance of her being remotely compelling to me.

Fuck no. As far as I'm concerned she's worse than Diamond Tiara.

I can live with her petty motivations. Some of the best big time baddies are petty - it comes with the territory.

What pisses me off is that she suffered no consequences for her actions. Discord? Sealed in stone, twice. Sunset Shimmer? Became a pariah until she saved everyone from evil seaponies. Nightmare Moon? Got blasted to hell and back with the magical friendship beam. Trixie? Humiliation conga after humiliation conga. Hell, even Diamond Tiara got some form of punishment at least twice.

Starlight? Water under the bridge, a happy musical number, and she gets to live in a castle as the protege of a princess whom she had kidnapped, stolen her cutie mark from, tried to brainwash along with her friends, and tried to make her life a living hell mere hours ago. Hell, even the ponies from Our Town forgave her in less than a minute. And nopony in Equestria aside from the Mane 6, Spike, the members of Our Town, and presumably the princesses knows what she did, or if they do, they apparently don't care.

Bull. Crap.

And ever since then it's been, "Oh poor me. I feel SOOO terrible about what I did. Look how pitiful I am because I can't hold a simple conversation without trying to subjugate the other pony to my will. You know, like a freaking psychopath!"

And even after saving everyone from Chrysalis, after apparently "coming to terms" with her past, she's still doing it!!!! Celestia and Luna should've thrown her in the dungeon for pulling that crap, if not Tartarus! The princesses should be seeing a therapist for their issues, somepony who actually knows what they're doing, not this stupid plot-head!

So, no, I still don't like Starlight Glimmer. And I sincerely doubt I ever will.

I know, right? At first I hated her but now I think she's pretty good.

Now I can sleep properly.

4553048 Don't be too suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure.

My opinion of her hasn't changed. I didn't like her before, I still don't.

Nope, I still hate her.

When I first saw Starlight Glimmer, I thought she was refreshing. When the show advertised her to be the sixth ranger of the show essentially, I was at first excited.

But then the show handled her poorly in my opinion, and my enthusiasm dropped. Not helped with the bullshit backstory they gave her.

What I was hoping was something like when SHE got her Cutie Mark people resented her, fearing her for her power or something like that. THAT would have made her a better character, and gave her a valid reason for why she was so against Cutie Marks and wanting to break up Twilight and her friends.

It would have made her a better sixth ranger too.

I love Starlight. She was an interesting villain and I really like a heel face turn character, especially when it sticks and the character becomes an asset to the forces of good. Yeah, her backstory is a little thin, but I can forgive it in a show for little girls.

Eh, I don't hate her, but it seems like she's a "One step forward, two steps backward" character. And it doesn't help that she continues to suffer the same problem after several episodes. But I suppose that's a problem with Season 7 being ordered while Season 6 was still in production, so they had no time to see how people would react to Starlight's actions in "Every Little Thing She Does".

Maybe if they stopped making magic her defining and only character trait (besides being a reformed villain), maybe she'd do a better job. Or maybe she just needs to have more episodes like "Rock Solid Friendship" where they aren't trying to make her the focus. Maybe Starlight is like Applejack in that she's good if she has someone to play off of, but if she has to hold her own she can't do it?
