I Need Some Input · 1:16am May 24th, 2017

I have depression, social anxiety, PTSD, agoraphobia, anemia, OCD, and a few other emotional/ physical disorders. I want to make a YouTube series about what it is like to deal with these various conditions but I don't want to come off as being a victim. I want to make these videos to spread awareness and give people some insight into what it is like to deal with these things.

However there is a lot of overall negativity when it comes to sharing things that make you different. For example I have heard people who have shared similar experiences be called special snowflakes or Tumblrinas. I want some advice on how I could spread this message without sounding like I just want attention or a 'victim card' as some people put it.

I want to poke a little fun at myself because I like looking on the positive side of things. But I also have gone through some hardcore situations in my life such as abuse at home, work, and school that are a part of the story/ contributing factors.

I have also dealt with suicidal thoughts and have attempted suicide (both are things I am not proud of but that is the nature of depression sometimes). I think I need to find a good balance between being light-hearted but also addressing the gritty details about what it is really like to deal with these various things. And it is going to be a bit tricky because the stuff needs to be said but I also don't want people to view me as a victim or attention seeker either. So it will be difficult to pull off.

If anyone has any advice on how I could go about doing this, it would be very much appreciated.

Honestly? And I know this is going to sound callous, you make it funny.

Take your situation lightly, but don't make light of it.

4544679 That is good advice. I will try to find a good balance between humor but also being serious about certain things.

4544686 Its kind of how I deal with my own issues. It is a really good way to both get people to listen to you, and to keep yourself strong.

And as someone who's about to enter the YouTube space himself (Not really comparable to this subject matter, I'm making doofy vector cartoons about comic books) I wish you the best of luck.

4544701 My channel is going to have a bunch of different stuff like reviews, speed drawings, art/ craft tutorials, scary stories: pretty much anything I feel like putting on it.

I'm sorry, I don't have tips for your videos.

4544731 It's okay. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. :)

You're welcome.

I have no advice except that you just add a creative spin and ignore the jackoffs. As long as you keep your composure, and don't use your conditions as an excuse for anything, then you will be fine. I have no idea though.

4544848 Thank you for the advice. I will keep it in mind when I make my videos.

I know I'm late. But maybe, I am terrible at advice, but maybe someone can be with you during this

4551607 What do you mean?

Have someone be with you when making the videos. Having someone with you could help boost confidence.

4552958 Oh. I don't really have anyone to make the videos with though. I'll just be doing them on my own.

Oh, never mind then. Sorry I couldn't be more help

4553535 It is all good. I appreciate you taking the time to read the post. :)
