Spoilers: Scootaloo is best pony · 6:02pm May 7th, 2017
Nothing more need be said.
But I'm going to anyway.
I'm left with a feeling of... happiness. And also, curiosity. If Scootaloo's parents had encouraged Scootaloo even half as much as Rainbow's did her, would she be flying loops around everypony? Does she really just need a cheering squad?
Oh, and no, I'm sorry, I still don't buy she's an orphan. All she said is that she wished she had supportive parents, although it makes me sad that my options are jerk parents or no parents. Screw you, Hasbro, I want happy Scootaloo.
No parents are better than jerk parents. :V
4523515 I don't need them dead. She has support from other ponies.
"Not being supportive" doesn't translate to "Scootaloo's 'rents are dead OMG!" or "Scoots was abused OMG!" Not saying this in reference to you, but in general: It just seems like so many people feel the need to hop on the "Scoots life is a horrible tragedy" bus. All she said was that nopony ever told her she'd be the best at anything. That's it.
Just maybe, her parents were... busy with 10 kids? Inattentive? Clueless? Something else equally mundane but affective in not building up Scoot's self-image and encouraging her self-motivation? I understand this view from a very personal perspective.
Scootaloo is probably just a middle child. This "nopony encouraged me" is - thankfully - likely the worst we'll ever see regarding her, until the writers decide that a back-fill is needed to make an episode more traumatically interesting.
That image gave me diabetes, btw. Thanks a lot!
4523540 I'm guessing it's inattentive. Her reaction to Rainbow's offer to be her sister is not one that strikes me as being from a pony who already has siblings.
4523580 Good point!
Haven't seen the episode yet, but I've always gone under the belief that her folks were fairly "hands off" and/or busy. Rather than dead or abusive.
Maybe her parents just don't have as much time to devote to her as she would like? I much prefer the idea that her parents are the overly (but unintentionally) embarrassing kind. They mean well, but they can be a bit clueless.
This episode was... cringey as fuck. But it was awesome to see Rainbow's parents. Even if they were... They came right out of an American Rom-Com.
I expected it would be revealed that Firefly wasn't Rainbow's mother after all, but now that it's happened I can't help thinking that so much headcanon is now destroyed.
On the other hand, though, I am certainly pleased with her parents having been introduced finally.
My thought is who cares. Did you see that last shot of scoots? Dash more or less gave Scoots her parents and she's clearly super thrilled, does it even matter how we got here, it's perfect.
4526583 Those headcanons were already destroyed during Testing 123 when it was revealed that Firefly was a historical wonderbolt member. Also, Hasbro can't get the rights to the name Firefly without a big old fight with a certain SF franchise. Her name isn't all that important anyway. Her personality was frankly adorable.
4526750 Probably entirely true. "Hey mom, hey dad, I want you to start a new trophy room. We're gonna whip a new wonderbolt into shape."
4526893 oh that's a fair point
