Quick Note About Canada-Premiered Eps · 10:57am May 7th, 2017

OK so I need to talk about this because it's actually becoming a problem now.

Last week, I watched "Fluttershy Leans In" early because I happened to learn it was airing early about 20 minutes before it aired and I was bored.

Yesterday, "Forever Filly" aired in Canada. I have not watched it.

Today, Canada is airing "Parental Glideance". I'm not planning to watch it.

I'd really prefer to wait until these episodes air on Discovery Family here in the US. Despite the temptation to watch them online.

I am...frankly starting to get sick of Canada jumping the gun with these new episode premieres. It's frustrating for those of us who have the legal means to watch the show and are being patient while so many people are watching episodes early illegally. (Yes, I know if you're actually IN Canada, you're watching it legally (probably), but you KNOW what I mean).

Would it kill the Canadians to keep to the same schedule as Discovery Family so everybody gets the new episodes at roughly the same time? Because one episode 6 days early wasn't too bad, but now Canada is two whole episodes ahead of the US and that's bullshit.

Anyway...needless to say, I'd like to advise people to remember to be mindful of spoilers and to not post episode-based stories before the US premiere dates of said episodes.

You know it's going to get worse over time if they keep this "two a weekend" schedule up. :ajbemused:

okay, so the only channel I have that airs it is cartoon network and they do not play new episodes so soon. I had thought it was the reverse? Canada having to wait as the few times I have watched a "first airing" stream an american network was used?

Unfortunately, it seems the schedule has been set in Canada. Most likely Hasbro is getting sick of Discovery Family and is trying to find new markets to air the episodes in in other countries, which is a shame considering Discovery Family has finally started to bother advertising the show properly.

4523237 Yeah, that's the part that really annoys me... :ajsleepy:

4523250 It's all changed because a network for toddlers is airing two new episodes a weekend.

4523296 Umm...no. Just...that's incredibly dumb. You wanna run that back through your head a bit and see the very, very many stupid things about what you just said? We'll wait.

4523315 oh ok... thats........:rainbowhuh:

4523197 4523237
Eventually, Treehouse will have to stop airing two episodes a week, because they'll run out of finished episodes.

4523381 Well that's good. I thought they had the whole season done for some reason. :applejackconfused: I've been watching the early releases because I didn't want to live in a hole and disconnect with the fandom for the next several months to avoid spoilers, but I'd rather just have 1 episode a week to enjoy across the season.

Surely they know they're going to run out of episodes soon right?

...Right? :rainbowhuh:

But yeah it's super annoying. I guess they want to air everything before the movie?

Why do people in Canada need to wait until the US airdate to post episode-based stories? Do people in the US need to wait until the Brazilian or Japanese or German airdate?

Yeah, this'll be a hard season to deal with.

4523433 You're missing the point. The original language of the series is English. It's intended to premiere simultaneously in Canada and the US. Treehouse is jumping the gun with this two-episodes-a-weekend shit and getting way ahead of Discovery Family. They're not supposed to do that.

Since I can't do anything about it, I may be forced to take a step back from the fan sites for the rest of Season 7. I said it somewhere before, but I have DiscoFam, and if I can watch pony on my nice, 32" HDTV instead of my old, 19" computer monitor, I'll do it. I'm too old and my eyes aren't what they used to be.

This is the same reason why I refuse to stream video to a smart phone that I can watch on my TV. Seriously, why do people want to watch a movie, meant to be seen on a theater-size screen, on something that's maybe 6" across, max? So much is lost in translation.

Wait, you said you have the capability to watch the new episodes legally. How?

4523659 I can relate up to a point, but I've discovered the joys of watching streaming video on my phone. Namely, that I can relax in bed and watch Crunchyroll or Netflix.

4523663

Wait, you said you have the capability to watch the new episodes legally. How?

...I have cable? :rainbowhuh: (Dude, that's like, literally the dumbest fucking question ever.)

Noc

Speaking as a Canadian, and considering that nearly all of last season (which is when I first started watching MLP on TV rather than online) the Canadian episodes always – always – aired at least a week later than in the US (and that’s when it wasn’t two weeks) … and that’s not counting how the same can be said of virtually every US-made show that gets aired in Canada weeks or even months later (which is most of them) …

… well, you can imagine my reaction to seeing the shoe on the other foot this one time.

Ethics debates aside, this is the precise reason I watch it online now – I can’t view something that other people are already enjoying purely because I happen to live in the wrong geographical division? And to think networks complain about getting pirated.

Regional availability is obsolete.

4523960 Really? Because the people whose livelihoods are tied up in ad revenue from the show beg to differ. Y'know, like producers, directors, writers, animators, voice artists...remember those people? Every time you watch an episode illegally, you're hurting all those people. Piracy isn't something we should support. It's inconvenient and frustrating to have to wait, yes, but it's the right thing to do.

And yes, I've failed my "resist temptation" roll in the past and watched streams of episodes that haven't aired in the US yet, and I'm ashamed of myself for that. I'm trying to do the right thing this time and wait until these episodes air here in the US, even though it's going to be a massive pain in the ass dodging two weeks' worth of spoilers.

4524032
And tell me, how is my argument hurting them? If every episode was made available in every English speaking territory at the same time, who would be hurt?

That is what I was saying.

4524042 Ah, okay. My mistake. I thought you were advocating Internet streams, not...yeah. My bad. ^^;;

4523721 Big agree here. It's so frustrating to be pointed to something someone's posted, only to get, "The video you are attempting to view is not permitted to be shown outside the United States."

My advice is not to go overboard on it. You're basically getting a taste of what a lot of us have had to put up with for as long as there's been television. You just learn to not take it personally when people start raving about an episode your country won't be allowed to show for another month or so. Just tune it out and move on.

Meanwhile I'm still here waiting for season 6 on local cable.

4523663 ...I assume you don't live in the US.
4524032 Which is exactly why I'm waiting for the local broadcast to start playing catch up.

4524877
I actually do live in the US. It's just from how I read the blog post and what I've read about treehouse tv seemed contradictory. So I was confused.

4524891 That was still a dumb thing to ask, because if you've been following Moth long enough you know he has Discovery Family.

4524913
Let me clarify.
Originally I read the blog post wrong. I thought Moth could watch the Canadian episode legally while he lived in the us.

My first comment was asking how moth could watch the early episodes legally.

I believe Moth though I was asking about the discovery family episodes airing once per week.

So Moth's reply confused me.

Bottom line: I read the blog post wrong. Moth thought I was asking about discovery family.
I was confused with his reply

4524946 I guess we both misunderstood your question then. My bad.

4524951
It's okay. I have a hard time communicating my thoughts through the Internet rather than verbally speaking to someone. :twilightblush:

4523197 It really does sound annoying.

4523237 It just sucks that they're doing this.

Hopefully Treehouse will get some sense slapped into them.

4523381 And they'll stop ruining this season with the early premiering.
