    What. (Frenemies spoilers, kind of)

Okay, so obviously I'm going to be making a blog post about season nine, especially since Frenemies is pretty much the best episode the show's ever had. And I know it's also kind of late for me to post this compared to my usual times.

But while I was writing it, I found something out, and it's legitimately freaking me out.

I've cracked the code on season nine

Cozy Glow is the Storm King reborn.

That's why she's so obsessed with getting control of a bunch of followers and taking over everything, she's just continuing from where she left off. Same reason she wants to be Queen, she's just getting her title back (adjusted to fit her new body).

Tinfoil updates and massive season seven spoilers · 11:38pm May 2nd, 2017

First off, something I posted as an update in the previous post. Two quotes from the editor of the Legends of Magic series:

There's a bit more coordination and reference accumulation with Hasbro as there may be elements at play that won't be referenced for a while elsewhere.

And

For anyone who wants to dig deeper into what Equestria was like in the past, this is the series for you. If you're more interested in the present day cast and world, then you may find some intriguing links to what's going on now.

As I said in the other update, it's not much. However, it does confirm what I was saying based off the other interview, that the Legends of Magic series actually has some kind of link to what's currently happening. So it could be that the color change in Sunburst's magic was intentional after all and not just an oversight/artistic license.

I had some thoughts and theories on what could be going on, but that all pointless now because

(massive season seven spoilers ahead)

NOTE: This synopsis was ultimately proven to be a fake, sadly. So everything past this point is only being kept now in case anyone finds it interesting still.

CHRYSALIS IS BACK!

Season Seven Episode Fifteen: Triple Threat. When Queen Chrysalis unleashes her vengeance on Starlight Glimmer with the help of two old enemies, it's up to Twilight Sparkle and the ponies to rescue Starlight

Honestly, this throws any kind of hypotheses I had out the window, because I was not expecting this mid-season (well, except for one possibility, which I'll get into in a bit...).

Really, I'm more interested in who these two old enemies are. Hopefully they aren't going the Siege of the Crystal Empire route, where Queen Chrysalis, a AAA Platinum threat with an army of shapeshifters, is team up with a bunch of D-listers (I mean, Iron Will? There was literally a comic where the Mane Six helped him get back together with his wife). On the other hand, who's left? Tirek and Sombra are about it, and one's in hell and the other's dead. I'm sure Chrysalis could easily get past Cerberus and free Tirek, but unless she's really good at jigsaw puzzles Sombra won't be joining the team. Okay, sure, they can never straight up say he's dead on the show, so he could come back whenever they want, but seeing as how they basically gave the comics free reign to do whatever they wanted with him and he got reformed, I think it's pretty clear they don't intend to ever use him on the show again. On top of all that, would Chrysalis really team up with either of them, seeing as how they're close to her in power? Tirek seems like a threat pretty much 100% of the time to everyone around him. And given Chrysalis's love of being the one in charge, I don't think she'd work with anyone who could even come close to challenging her. Plus, three major villains working together isn't really something you deal with in a 22 minute episode in the middle of a season. That's premiere/finale (maybe even both) territory.

So then who could it be? Well, if we're logical about things, there were at least twelve changelings who weren't at the hive and are presumably still loyal to their Queen. So what if whoever these two villains are, they're actually changelings? And let's take it a bit further. What if that isn't even Queen Chrysalis, but another changeling? Which would mean the Starlight that Twilight and friends rescue... is actually Chrysalis.

It makes more sense than this synopsis being a 100% accurate description of what happens. This is Queen Chrysalis we're talking about. She's devious. The comics notwithstanding, grabbing two other baddies and openly attacking Starlight isn't really something she would do. But replacing her? I mean, that's literally what she does.

And honestly, given Starlight's personality half the time, would anyone even notice a difference?

Of course, the real fear here is that this is exactly what it looks like, and from now on Chrysalis is just going to be a reoccurring villain who shows up once a season for a single episode, or maybe a premiere/finale every once in a while, only to go 'blasting off again'. There are two big things I'm looking at to confirm any theories in advance. One, is this the last episode before another mid-season hiatus like we usually get? And two, what's going to happen in issue #53 of the comic?

Number one is important because, as you may know, they can't actually control what order the episodes air in (which is just... mind-boggling to me). So if they made an episode with ChrysalisStarlight, and for whatever reason it ended up airing before the episode where she gets replaced, that would screw things up pretty spectacularly. But if this episode is going to be the last one to air before a hiatus, then they can guarantee that every episode after it should have a disguised Chrysalis as Starlight. A simple and elegant solution to "we can't do season-long continuous story lines because someone at Hasbro rolls dice to decide what order the episodes air in".

Number two, at least, will get answered tomorrow. If whatever gets revealed (if anything... the whole arc has been nothing but chase scenes so far. (which I understand, any kind of big reveal would obviously be saved for the final issue, especially since the other issues were published before the current season started. It's just that nothing has really happened in the comic so far other than Edgelord McGrimdark saying "There's totally something evil in Equestria's history so I'm erasing all record of it. K thnx bai.")) has anything to do with changelings, I'd feel pretty confident saying my theory here might be plausible. So look forward to another post of me complaining about that tomorrow night when it ends up being nothing and/or I'm wrong.

*** Edit 5/4 ***

Spoiler tags are gone, because that synopsis was completely fake. The title was of a real episode, but the synopsis itself was fake. Apparently someone made it up based on the leaks from the actual credible leaker, and it was all lumped into one post on EQD. So all of this is now basically nothing. Which is disappointing, because even if I was wrong about all my speculation I was really looking forward to that episode.

Although now there's an episode, with no current synopsis, called 'To Change a Changeling'. Which could also be about Chrysalis, but then that title makes me worried for obvious reasons.

I still hold the opinion that Chrysalis's redemption is inevitable at some point. For all we know, this could be Chrysalis's "Keep Calm and Flutter On". Regardless, I can't wrap my head around who the two old enemies are either. The only un-redeemed villains that aren't opener/finale monsters are Iron Will and Lightning Dust (there's also Flim and Flam, but they're just greedy, and wouldn't join a revenge mission unless they went dirt poor, and considering what happened the last time we saw them, that doesn't look likely). Welp, here's to it then.

I'm just waiting for the episode with Applejack's parents return.

Nah it's not Changelings the comics are hinting at I don't think. More likely Grogar.

They name dropped him, the very ep after had cowbells put around ponies necks. (His shtick was he channeled his magic through a bell around his neck.) And an 'ancient evil returning" was exactly what he was, as his land of Tambelin pulled a Crystal Empire and vanished, only to reappear centuries later.

Grogar seems plausible.

To the rest of it, don't forget that Chrysalis no longer has an army of shapeshifter.

Also, don't forget that while Sombra may have been shattered into a bajillion pieces, his horn was not included in that mess. This doesn't really mean anything, just throwing it out there.

4517954 Eh, it does seem to short a time to have major villain returns.

Though, who said these were enemies we know of? Maybe she teemed up with two of HER old enemies?

4517876

While I'd love to see her on the good guy side, I just really really hope it's as her, and not some brightly colored parody like the rest. Honestly, I really love it if she still has some changelings of her own left, and they're all able to reconcile and become one kingdom again. Would be a cool thing to see, I think.

Although, and I keep bringing this up, one of the production books has a quote saying something along the lines of "some villains shouldn't be reformed, because 'you can't change everyone' is an important lesson to learn". And that quote happens to be on a page about Chrysalis. So there's that. But that book is also several years old at this point, and things change.

And yeah, Iron Will and Lightning Dust are about the only thing left that's close to villains. And them plus Flim and Flam were the exact villains who teamed up with Chrysalis in Siege of the Crystal Empire, and I find it hard to believe they'd copy something from the comics so closely on the show. Plus... I mean, what do they add that Chrysalis can't do on her own?

4517930

Well, the comic was just released today and had a picture of who the main villain is going to be this season. And I don't really think that's Grogar.

... I, uh... I'm not sure who or what it is, though.

4517958

Maybe she teemed up with two of HER old enemies?

... Celestia and Luna?

"Sorry Twilight, but she was really persuasive."

4519060 That would be hilarious.

:trollestia: "Plus she had cake."
