S7E05: "Fluttershy Leans In" · 8:56pm Apr 30th, 2017
Sorry guys, but there's no way I'm waiting several weeks to say anything about a new episode. My guideline is "first official showing", and if that means Treehouse, so be it. I will use page breaks more than usual, though. Anyway, today's episode was a pretty typical G. M. Berrow story: not exactly deep, but cute and with some fun guest characters. I'm obviously biased when there's a Fluttershy episode, but there wasn't a great deal of depth here. So, yet another ★★★ ep.
What's interesting to me is that (admittedly a bit out of nowhere) we finally get a life goal for Fluttershy, to go with Rainbow joining the Wonderbolts, Rarity opening her Canterlot boutique, etc. If a Pinkiegoal turns up later in the season, that might make me suspect that S7 could be the end of G4 as we know it after all.
Fluttershy's goal does fit; it's pretty much what she's been doing with her life up until now.
4514909 Oh, it fits her character fine. It's just that we haven't heard anything about this specific goal until now, whereas Rainbow's and Rarity's had been mentioned several times before they happened.
It's a star lower for me because I couldn't stop thinking that Pinike was completely ignoring the "You can't force friendship" lesson she learned in Maud Pie, while Fluttershy was simultaneously forgetting the "Don't enable freeloaders" lesson she learned in It Ain't Easy Being Breezies.
Still, there's a lot of fun things in the episode—like Pinkie barfing up a pencil, Derpy being delighted with the unexpected pizza attack, and Bon Bon shoving Lyra off screen—so it's a high two.
Don't go getting my hopes up, now.
4515079 Most of that refers to "Rock Solid Friendship", doesn't it? Still, I do wonder how I'd have scored "Fluttershy Leans In" if it weren't a Fluttershy episode. I suspect slightly lower, because I am biased towards her and have no qualms about saying so -- but enough to drop a star? I'm not sure about that.

**headdesk** Yeah... two episodes in a row, and I've conflated them. Now trying to remember fun animation bits from the Fluttershy episode... and nothing's springing to mind.
