[Locals] First Day's Reception · 1:30am Apr 19th, 2017
Lessee here... I put together the prologue over the course of three days, and wrote out the entire first chapter in about three hours. In the twenty hours since I published that chapter, The Locals has been met with:
•Fourteen likes.
•Zero dislikes.
•Six comments, one of which was my own.
•Ninety-eight views.
•A constant spot on the Popular Stories sidebar.
•Sixty-one bookshelf additions.
•And twenty-six users tracking its updates.
I know they're not high values for numbers, especially compared to other, more entertaining stories. Nonetheless, this kind of reception for such a simple idea has made me feel incredibly happy. It's been amazing to see a new alert nearly every time I opened my phone. In fact, seeing such a positive reception (regardless of how small it may be) helped a lot with how stressful my final few hours were at work today. And hell, a couple of the comments were users saying that they simply loved the prompt that started this whole thing!
So after all of this, I recognize that I haven't yet reached any particular milestone. Even that first hundred views hasn't been crossed, although I imagine that might change within the next day. With that in mind, I'd like to go ahead and say that I think I have a plan for this project. Quite possibly the most difficult plan I've ever made:
"DON'T go crazy with this."
I've dabbled in slice-of-life before. Dabbled, but never really focused on it. It's always been little scenes or chapters within other, grander plotlines. They always served some narrative purpose for the larger project. I don't want that with Locals. This time, I just want a collection of simple stories, each told from the perspective of one of the characters.
I want goddamn Lucky Star or some zwiz like that.
