Points of Canon: Friends Forever #37 · 9:39am Apr 18th, 2017
I’m holding back on the Shadow Lock storyline because it’s a three-parter, and I’m not sure what to think of it, and I’m holding back on Legends of Magic #1 for a similar reason.
But Friends Forever #37 is standalone, so might as well sort it out while I have the time.
- Manehattan has multiple train stations, one of which is called “Pen station.”
- This is explicitly the first time Babs Seed sees Sweetie Belle after Crusaders of the Lost Mark.
- This is also explicitly the first time Rarity sees Babs Seed since Babs Seed got her cutie mark.
- Babs Seed and Sweetie Belle are planning to attend Roller Derby where Manehattan Manglers take on Whinnyapolis Whirlwinds. So what particular kind of derby is it, and is it anything like the one in The Cart Before The Ponies?
- So the Manehattan equivalent of Madison Square Garden is called Madison Mare Garden. Which is fine, but what does the word “Madison” mean, if anything?
- The lighting tech has a gamepad for a cutie mark.
- Sapphire Shores refers to Trixie as her new “special effects wizard,” emphasis mine. I am pretty sure that while Trixie is a specialist magician, she does not have that distinction, whatever it really means for ponies, so this is probably something Sapphire Shores decided to call Trixie on her own – Trixie does not refer to herself as a “wizard” at any point.
- Rarity explicitly says that she never met Trixie between Boast Busters and Magic Duel.
- Trixie refers to being friends with Starlight Glimmer and helping saved the day. Which means that right now she has to have a medal for saving Equestria which she doesn’t show off, since To Where And Back Again and Celestial Advice are clearly temporally back to back, with no space to squeeze this trip to Manehattan in, because it takes place over a weekend. The enmity and mistrust Rarity displays is kind of inconsistent, unless she caught Trixie moving the map table…
- Trixie insists that various visually impressive spells are trivial for her, and from what she does later at the dress rehearsal, there’s no reason to think she’s lying. And the look on her face suggests she really likes this application of magic.
- Some of the spells, however, generate non-magical fire, i.e. result in tangible sparks.
- Sapphire Shores comments that Rarity isn’t the first pony who warned her about Trixie. So who was the first?…
- When discussing special effects Trixie mentions that Celestia’s hair is naturally luminous. This is something that might not be apparent to our eyes, but is apparent to ponies.
- Honestly, who let them fire actual rockets indoors? Where’s the firepony with an extinguisher…
I like that kind of Trixie if you ask me.
You know, Distaff Fight Club: Roller Derby. Seems like a Babs Seed sort of outing, really.

Oh! Well, that matches the haircut she makes for Sweetie Belle by the end of the comic…
I completely forgot that the Shadowlock storyline is going on right now, and that Legends of Magic just begun. I haven't started on either of them. Best go do that now.
Here's hoping they don't suck too badly.
A decent comic, though I thought Rarity was a little harsh.
Semi-related skills for a pony with a cutie mark he couldn't make a career out of.
Not convinced on that. Sunburst is the royal nanny, he can't be traveling down from the Crystal Empire all willy-nilly to talk to Starlight, he has to take his chances to talk to her when he sees her at the next event. There could have been several weeks in between the the two episodes, or even a month or two. More than enough time for Rarity to take in a quick gig in Manehatten with Trixie.

Which was at Starlight’s village, wasn’t it? :)

It was, after Discord teleported them directly there from the Changling Kingdom, and Sunburst wasn't at the Sunset Festival in Our Town.
Just watched the S6 final moments to check this, and it made me realize something else: Of course Trixie is wealthy enough to afford fancy jewelry now, she has Discord's chaos magic enhancing her act! I hope that comes up at some point in Season 7.

But Flurry Heart was.
So either Sunburst can travel without Flurry Heart, or he was actually present on the Sunset Festival.
4502699 Flurry Heart was captured by the changlings as well, so Discord teleported her to Our Town as well along with her parents. I'm not sure if Sunburst even knew the changlings had been defeated during the final scene where everyone is celebrating in Our Town, or if he was still hiding in a broom closet somewhere in the Crystal Empire, waiting for rescue because no one bothered to tell him.
I'm pretty confident Sunburst wasn't at the festival, since Starlight actually does a big pan shot of all her friends.
