Yes, you read that right. Recently I've been wondering, how did the pony tribes come to exist? What are their origins? To be more accurate I'm interested knowing when the first members of each tribe supposedly occurred. I think it's safe to say they originated from a pony similar to an Earth Pony but at some point, they split into the 3 tribes we know of now. I can already hear someone whining about thestrals/bat ponies not being included here and until it is proven otherwise in the series proper I'm just going to go on believing they are a clan, or set of clans, that diverged from the pegasi and adapted to a more nocturnal theme. Alicorns are a unique case, mostly because they possess the properties of the other tribes. So, for the purposes of this little exercise, alicorns will be mostly omitted.
This is to this discussion is to make reasonable assumptions about what the tribes believe in regards to origins and how that reflects their distinct cultures. In short, at what point did ponies go from being just ponies to the varieties of pony we see in the series?
I think this would be a fun story to see, whether, in fan fiction or the series proper, that actually has a lot of potential. I haven't found any stories on FiM Fiction that address this, if there are any that you found please share, if not, someone should get to work on it.
