Headcanon on EG Geography, Canterlot, and EG Ponyville · 9:42pm Apr 2nd, 2017
I hope all of my readers are enjoying chapter 7 of A Tale of Two Suns. As for me, I've had extra work to do around here. I'm tired, and I still have to do more.
But since I'm sitting down resting, I thought I'd just share some headcanon I had as far as geography in the EG human world. I'm referring to Canterlot, the capital of Equestria as "Canterlot", and the Canterlot in the human world as "Canterlot City".
So we all know that Canterlot is built up in the mountains. To be more specific, part of it seems to hang off the side of a mountain, adding to the fantastical nature of the city.
Now we don't get the best look at Canterlot City, but I think it's safe to say that it's not built up in the mountains like it's Equestrian counterpart. It might not be at a particularly high elevation, period.
We also know that the geography between the human world and Equestria isn't perfectly parallel. Crystal Prep is in Canterlot City, and it's clearly the equivalent of the Crystal Empire, despite the Crystal Empire being way up north. Now that I think about it, some Equestrian cities might not even exist in the human world, like Cloudsdale for example.
And on that note, here's a question: What happened to the human world's equivalent of Ponyville (or whatever it would be called over there)?
I actually came up with a headcanon answer for that. Let's take note of the fact that characters like Cheerilee and the Applejack live in Canterlot City. Yes, they needed to be there for plot purposes, but let's not focus on that. Also take note of the fact that the Cakes live there too, and have a version of Sugarcube Corner in Canterlot City.
When I think about it, and after looking at the official Equestria map, it seems to me that most of the distance between Ponyville and Canterlot is in the vertical direction. Horizontally speaking, they seem pretty close.
I'm of the mind to say that Canterlot City is still a major city like Canterlot, though not necessarily a state or national capital like it's counterpart. I'm also inclined to say that it's definitely much closer to ground level.
My headcanon is that once upon a time, the human world might have had a Ponyville or whatever it would have been called. In the human world, because Canterlot City was much closer to ground level, narrowing the distance between the two places, the small town that was human Ponyville got incorporated into Canterlot City, something not possible between Ponyville and Canterlot.
The Humane Seven (barring Sci-Twi) and CHS are in the suburbs. Remember, Sci-Twi had to take a "bus to and from the city". In my headcanon, that suburban area is generally where human Ponyville once was.
Anyway, that's just me sharing my own headcanon as I sit here and rest. Feel free to leave comments.
