Writing from the male perspective · 12:33pm Apr 2nd, 2017
So this was always going to be a challenge. I'm putting a lot of effort into this and I hope that I'm doing it justice.
Some minor spoilers below so just FYI.
This new story will feature a male lead. This presents a number of issues for me, like style, action, behavioural aspects and language. I really want the reader to feel that they are approaching this from a male angle.
Thankfully, I have some fairly heavy male influences in my life, and am often regarded as a bit of a Tomboy. I'm married to what is possibly the greatest example of the Male stoic phenotype in existence, and my two older brothers and my father play a pretty big part in my life, so I think I've got it covered. Maybe.
The lead is very much an Alpha male, not consciously or aggressively so, but and Alpha all the same. He doesn't really have too many Female role models in his life and his treatment of women, I hope, reflects this in very subtle ways.
As he matures throughout the story this will fade, and the clinical and mechanical style of the story will soften quite a bit. This will hopefully represent the character opening up a lot more and letting others in, as well as a change of mindset for the protagonist.
I just hope I can pull it off...
