Looks good! Still a little Equip-heavy for my taste; I tend to avoid them whenever possible.
Would running 50 work, though? Would it get off the ground as fast as a 40?

I like equip spells. Mage Power especially works in a spell heavy deck like this one.
And yes, if I really wanted to, I could cut out ten cards. But that's cuting out more than I'm comfortable with.
4456093 Yeah, they each have their uses. But personally, if I find myself topdecking, I'd like to draw cards I can play immediately. If you're backed into a corner with no monsters and no hand, an Equip Spell is a dead draw. Not fun.
I meet in the middle for deck size. For more useful cards without the detriment of slowing the deck down, I try to run 42-45.
More of my dueling philosophy.

On the other hand, if you're unable to summon your Boss, an equip spell like Mage Power can turn a weak monster into a strong one.
And yes, I do usually like to go closer to forty.
4456262 I guess that's left up to whether a deck has a "Boss" and can summon it quickly. Hence the 40-ish limit.
Second set, do you have a third set for this kind of deck?
