Welcome to the Dark Ages

It is believed that the Dark Ages began over 1500 years ago, when the Ancients' prophetic book, the Dark Prognosticus, was opened. 1500 years would actually mean the year 507, as that's the year 1500 years before Super Paper Mario came out... but I'm thinking it was actually 1635 years ago... the reason? The Flora Kingdom Calendar, dating back to the beginning of the first king's reign, in the year 1. (Which would be 382 in our calendar) In the year 444, The Darkening, a reign of fear and tyranny, began. In the year 496, when the first king died, his son was already dead at that point, and so his daughter became the first queen. She ruled for 802 years, and had only one son. He was born with a defect that caused him to live for only 88 years, rather than the centuries his species normally lives for. His son, the current king, invented a brainwashing method in 1625 and used it to enslave cavemen en masse not more than a year later, in 1626. (This is the year I believe to be 2007 in our calendar, since it's the latest event on the Flora Kingdom's history)
