Apple for a short time also developed their own floppy disk technology, dubbed "The Twiggy Diskette" by many. Early Mac prototypes used the drive, but both the twiggy disk and drive were discontinued due to cost, as well as the fact that nobody wanted it.
"Engineered wood" is typically just wood chips and sawdust mixed with a binding agent to form a cheap alternative to solid hardwood.
It is rumored that the iPhone 8 may use USB-C instead of the lightning connector.

4451321 Same reasons for why they sell so many adapters now. Because then it would be the only choice that their users have. But no-one bought the disks anyways, so it flopped more than removing the headphone jack on the iphone.

4461683 Only a couple of years. Generally now, they're considered a collector's item of one of Apple's big flops. (Including the Apple Lisa and Apple Newton, both introduced too far ahead of time, and the Apple iii, which literally would melt itself sometimes.
