Some Concepts for Harmony Ascension *SPOILERS AHEAD* · 10:55pm Sep 28th, 2012

For those of you who have yet to start reading Harmony Ascension: Friendship is Glory, this is your last chance to decline reading this blog post, as there will be spoilers to chapters I've yet to release. However, if you don't mind spoilers at all, or managed to wait patiently for future chapters, then read to your heart's content!

Remember the video game series, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona? Well, I thought about borrowing the concept of spiritual partners from that game, plus others such as JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's stands, Shaman King's ghosts and spirits, and Soul Eater's meisters and human-weapons, and using it for the Harmony Ascension storyline.

Later on in the story, Twilight and her friends gain the power to summon ponified incarnations of their Elements of Harmony, called "Spirit Partners". They work the same way as personas from the titular game series of the same name, in that they can be summoned by each of the Mane Six for different combat situations. Their color schemes and cutie-marks even match their respective partners! These include the following:

-Twilight Sparkle=Fenghuang, "The Burning Magic"; a unicorn stallion who can control fire and wield a broadsword similar to Twilight's.
-Pinkie Pie=Undine, "The Tides of Laughter"; an earth pony mare who can control water and wield a trident.
-Rainbow Dash=Fuujin and Raijin, "The Loyal Twin Storms"; two pegasus stallions who can control wind and lightning, respectively, and wield tsurugi swords.
-Applejack=Beowulf, "The Honest Earthquake"; an earth pony stallion who can control earth and wield a battle-axe.
-Rarity=Shiva, "The Frozen Generosity"; a unicorn mare who can control ice and wield six scimitars.
-Fluttershy=Artemis, "The Kindness Hunter"; a pegasus mare who can control nature and wield a sniper-rifle.

They also have the power to perform "Magic Sync", originally with each other, but later on with their respective Spirit Partners. Magic Sync is the ability to combine the user's own magic with somepony else's to generate even stronger magic, similar to Soul Resonance from the anime series, Soul Eater. At the beginning of the story, as soon as the girls go through a magic awakening, which grants them the power to use hornless, body-generated magic, they are later taught by their drill-instructor, Daisuke (an earth-pony stallion who works with the Bushido Corps) on how to perform Magic Sync. It would originally be difficult at-first, as that would involve the girls matching each other's magic wavelengths, i.e. understand each other's thoughts and feelings, even though they're a dysfunctional group of friends, much like in the show. However, as they take everything they learned about friendship back at Ponyville, and apply those lessons to performing Magic Sync, they would eventually utilize some of the most powerful, and most bad-ass magic that can help them overcome impossible odds!

Magic Sync can also apply to the girls' Spirit Partners, which can generate even stronger magic than the girls syncing with each other, as their respective partners have much greater magical energy to generate. By the story's climax, the girls and their Spirit Partners are given new, stronger power: Harmony Sync, where each of the girls fuse their bodies with their respective partners for greater, more bad-ass power. And, if the girls can perform Magic Sync with each other while retaining their Harmony Sync forms, they can even combine to form an overblown mass of magical energy in the shape of a giant alicorn, called "Super Harmony Sync," which cranks their power levels beyond over 9000! That idea was based after the galaxy-sized mech, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, from the anime series of the same name, which was actually more of an over-sized mass of "Spiral" energy than a full-on giant mech.

I know, it seems like I'm turning the Mane Six into anime-style Mary Sues. But really, who the Hell cares when you have people like myself taking six well-established main-characters, and turning them into the equivalent of Goku from Dragon Ball Z, or a Mega-level Digimon from the anime series of the same name? Besides, as much as I enjoy substance and emotional storytelling, I also like it even more when it's supplemented with elements of a typical power-fantasy, most especially of the anime-style.

Anyway, sorry for spoiling important parts of the story, and I hope you enjoy what I said, anyway!
