I'll Have Another. Another fic with Double Diamond and Starlight Glimmer, that is. It's a horse joke
Anyways. I've mentioned how much I like this ship, even though it seems to have completely sank as a possible ship in the fandom at large. I shipped them before the S5 finale, so I may be biased, but Sunburst never really did much for me as a possible Starlight romantic option. They were childhood friends, and never met one another until the S6 premiere, and I don't really like the childhood friends trope, especially when they grew apart.
For Double Diamond though, he's seen and known Starlight Glimmer at her worst when she was ruling Our Town, and still forgave her for it. Additionally, the subtext of him being basically her trusted lieutenant, spying on the Mane 6 for her and grabbing their Cutie Marks for her (seriously, she trusted him enough to go up to the Cutie Mark Vault by himself and grab six Marks and avoid the obvious temptation of taking his own Mark, because Starlight apparently knew he wouldn't) always struck me. He was loyal to her right up until she was revealed to have her Cutie Mark, and he looked really hurt by her betrayal. Plus, there's the mention of 'This is where I first met Starlight!' when he finds his skis, and I always thought all this together meant he was basically her first follower.
Our Town is still something I feel is sorely underexplored by the fandom, so between Glimmer in the Snow and The Winter of Our Town's Content, I've written both my ideas of an origin story and a follow-up post Starlight being forgiven but still needing to make her own amends. I'm hopeful others follow as well.
...and now that I've finally written both of those, I can go read the few other stories on the site with DD and GlimGlam I've been avoiding so as to not affect my own ideas.
Well thanks, now I can ship Sunburst and Moondancer without feeling bad for Glimmer!
