Early New Year's resolutions, and Old Year's conclusions

Well, another year's come and gone. How did the resolutions go? Half and half in my case. Managed to partially accomplish what I set out to do, moving from wondering how to do things to figuring out what to do. I believe I've successfully identified the habits that are hampering or even harmful to me, so that's progress.

    Resolutions for the new year?

Summer update 2: What's Sticking to the Wall?

    Quick update on future plans.

Still working on the original stuff, I think I'm down to the last rewrite of what I wanted to do, only question is what to change in terms of details. Art's had some progress, but work responsibilities and sweet, sweet sleeping problems have caused disruptions.

    Summer update: what next?

Honestly? Not sure. I never publish anything that's not complete, so I'm not breaking any promises there. Thing is, I haven't started on anything new yet, and hadn't lined anything up before the previous one.

Wow, so in one episode we get... · 8:34pm Feb 4th, 2017

Flying with weighted vests is a thing.

Doldrum Whimper was doing that before it was cool.

Flying is actually cause and effect related to confidence.

Been implied for long, but finally spelled out. And stated with a number. Guess they really did rip off the Niko movies, (like I've been saying for years now) huh?

Also, Rumble was right. Shame there's no bragging rights for him, with the air date and publishing and all. Still, nice to know it was a good guess.

Pegasus children can already use magic to make gusts.

So Rumble mashing Featherweight away in Scootaloo's Second Skin is totally possible by canon. And Rumble being able to knock a grownup back in Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger could possibly happen on the show (not holding my breath, though).

Family size affecting character.

So Sky was the way he was because he had a lot of siblings, and Vapour was the way she was because she was an only child. I don't have any predictions or such regarding that, I just wanted to point out this is a nice touch. Character is what makes different individuals react to the same stimulus in a different manner. To see both extremes played out like this? Well done, so nice.

A TwiDash episode.

I'm trying to remember the last time that happened. This wasn't the first one, was it?

A male and female, in friendship. No hints of romance.

Lots of affection, yes, but Sky is genuinely concerned about Vapour's performance, and Vapour has, as it turns out, always cared a lot for Sky's wellbeing. This is a heartwarming thing to see, and I hope this episode proves a good warming-up for a Season 7 episode, involving a male/female friendship with foals in greater detail.

The weird part? I don't even care that much which pairing it'll be. TenderBloom would be nice, but the pattern suggests it'll be Sweetie Belle. Apple Bloom's had her cutie mark problem, Gabby was sort of Scootaloo taking centre stage, so Sweetie Belle is next. I have no idea who might get paired with her for a cutie mark problem, and have absolutely no suggestions in the matter. None. At. All.

Seriously, I've brought this up numerous times, but if you haven't yet, read the creator comments on that last one. I may have absorbed a lot of that subconsciously and started using that for Rumble's character in... well, everything I've used him in so far.

So, err, yeah, caught up with more episodes now that I'm home alone, just have to watch the finale... tomorrow. I already know how it ends, sort of, so I'm kind of expecting to be underwhelmed, especially with how Thorax was introduced. I mean really, that was just lazy.

Speaking of lazy, I voiced my discontent a while back regarding how Tender Taps was animated. Specifically, I objected to the fact that here we had a dedicated dancer, a tap dancer, a real performer, and how does he move? Like Twilight struggling to skate, or Granny Smith dancing to Discord's tune. I call that kind of lazy. Now, I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't then suggest an improvement of sorts. Which I did, but I didn't have a reference handy. Keep in mind, I'm not a professional animator. I'm not a professional anything, yet, unfortunately. However, I believe that a better solution could have been found with only minimal effort.

How much effort, you ask? Well, reminisce in nostalgia at this little clip, and at the back of your head, ask yourself this: "How many leg shapes would you have to draw to animate this, even if you only want it to look half like this?"

Tell me you don't want to see a pony dance like this. Just... make one pony named Flathoof, done.

Cracker out.

"Testing Testing 1-2-3" is probably the most recent TwiDash episode prior to "Top Bolt."

Ah, the learning difficulties one. Of course. But, eh, that one dragged the other Mane Six into it, didn't it? And the whole town after. Might be why it slipped my mind. :twilightsheepish:

Actually, on second thought, never mind. I just repressed the memory of Pinkie Pie rapping. :pinkiesick:

Not the show's finest moment, no. :facehoof:

I might be in the minority in actually liking that scene, and I don't actually like rap generally. They put some effort into making it look like an old bad education rap video, even making it look like the video quality you'd expect from something of that era, and I thought it was amusing. I'm just reminded of things like this:

(note: that is only a sample. Think the whole video is 9-10 minutes.)

As far as the finale, actually, I think the ending was the most iffy part of it. That seems to happen a fair amount with season finales of mlp.

Well, blame it on being ignorant Euro-trash, I guess. We never got stuff like that over here.

Edit: I can see why it'd be funny to parody, though. If you're familiar with this sort of thing, sure. Cultural barriers. Still, it's always nice to see the diversity in the fandom; people hate or love so many different things about the show, it's fascinating.

Honestly, I'd be glad you don't get stuff like that. There's a reason I only went with a small clip of it.

Funny thing is that while I was thinking of the category in general, I'm pretty sure "Don't Copy That Floppy" was one of the specific things they were parodying, looking at at least two points with mostly identical backgrounds. Given that we are talking about when floppies were in wide use, I'm sure this one zoomed past a bunch of people over here as well...
