From Flash to Toon Boom: Day 3 · 6:54pm Feb 4th, 2017

Seem to have the hang of using deformers (especially when it comes to a simple hair design such as Apple Bloom's). I would imagine that using it for multiple pieces of hair such as Sunset's or Fluttershy's would produce terrific results without having to draw them. Curiouser and curiouser, I would love to experiment this on wings, especially those of Midnight Sparkle's; as The Lion Guard was animated with Toon Boom, I'm certain they used deformers on the bird wings (to some jarring effect; I'm certain they'll improve over time).

I also found how to make drawing substitutions: it's automatically generated as you make more drawings and can be seen with the library tab and altered via the parameters bar next to said layer. The downside, though: the only way to correct a mistake is to delete the entire layer.

Masking is a little complex, but it nonetheless can be done. Placing each layer in a "peg" Use the node view and generate a "cutter" and/or "color override" (if your design asks for, say, an outline around the eye). Hook it up to the cutter, and another composite node. You have to do this with every part to be masked, even when parented.
