So are bad months refundable? · 5:29am Jan 27th, 2017
So I have a question. It’s a rhetorical question mostly, but I’ve been wondering if I can get a refund on my January. Don’t worry, this blog won’t be all griping, but I do feel like it could do me some good to just vent a bit so I can start fresh when February kicks off. Also fair warning, few parts of the blog might be a bit gross.
See, I had this neat plan of trying to focus a bit more on getting two chapters of my current story completed by sometime in February or early March. Actually managed to get a really good start on both of them at the end of December, knocked out about 6,500 words between Christmas and New Year's Day. Then it just kinda... stopped.
Wasn’t by my choice. No, right after the first of the year it was back to work, of course, but I find out that my boss’s boss has voluntold me and other IT managers across the cooperation for a meeting we’re going to have up in Canada, and it’s in like less than two weeks. Oh... well... hm, ok. So I have to get things prepped for that, which does take a little extra time. Extra time tends to come out of writing time. Ah well. All in all, the meeting was a good thing and there’s some good results to come for us all with some of the changes being made so that’s all well and good, I would have just picked somewhere other than Canada to meet at for the month of January... somewhere warmer... less snow maybe.
I’m personally not much of a traveling type. I’m perfectly fine with staying home and calling that a vacation, so traveling for work is kind of a double whammy for me. I just don’t really enjoy it, but I do it if asked. Main reason why I don’t like it is being stuck for hours in those flying germ tubes they call airplanes. And January being kind of right in the middle of some of the nastiness of the germ season, guess what happens? Yeah, a few days after I return home, I notice that I have sore throat. This then turns into a mild fever, and this persists for over twenty-four hours. Great.
So I go see the doctor, and the nurse does that super annoying thing where they jab a crazy long swab up one of your nose holes only to say ‘ok, gotta do the other one now’ and for some reason you can’t comprehend, you sit there and let them do the other one instead of slapping them upside the head for the first one! They run off with their little bogger swap and then after sitting on the hard table for half an hour with no one to talk to the doctor comes in and tells me that I have Influenza.
Probably got it from the snot-man that was sitting a few seats over from me on the plane trip home, if I had to place a bet. I kid you not that guy was rubbing his nose across the back of his hands and up his arms almost to his elbows. No, I am not making that up, grown man wiping his snot all over the backs of his hands. Dude, find a damn tissue.
Anyway, I then knew what was kicking my ass from the inside out, got a few meds prescribed to me to help with the symptoms but that’s about all you can do with the flu, it’s a virus and nothing curse it other than your own immune system. The main thing is to try not to get any other infections while you have it, which thankfully, I seemed to avoid. So my temperature hovered around slightly feverish for the next couple days before breaking, and I think I completely misplaced my Tuesday in there somewhere. Don’t remember getting one at all, so if anyone finds my missing Tuesday, I’d like it back, thanks.
So, today was probably the first day that, on the whole, I started feeling somewhat like a normal human being again. Stayed awake most of the day, even attended a meeting over the phone (despite that I took the day off for being sick, I’m just that much of a good employee I guess), so things should start looking up right?
Eh well, about the same time all of this stuff has been going on, there’s been this spot up on the right upper side of my gums that started hurting and bleeding. Yeah, I’ve had a bout with a bit of gum disease before and I know that this is probably what it is creeping its way back in again, and I planned on seeing my dentist right after getting back from the trip, but then the flu had some different plans for me so... yeah.
Basically, my January has been shit, and I’d like a refund. Where do I get a new one?
I probably just have to settle with trying again with February by now.
So! As I said, I do have plans. Yes, there are two chapters in the works. The idea is that they are sort of partner chapters to each other, but one is an optional side story that you don’t have to read. You might be wondering why in the world you’d want to skip it. Well, I do know that some readers do not like sad stories, and the main story line for What Didn’t Happen: After is not a sad story. However, this side story one chapter detour is a sad one and will be clearly marked as such. And I promise that should you choose not to read it, you won’t be missing any important must know details for the main story line. It is purely a side story that I want to add to flesh out a bit more of the ‘history’ of the Equestria that Princess Twilight comes from.
I never do make date promises for when I’ll be posting because I have enough things in my life with due dates on them already, don’t need them on my hobbies too. But, I do hope that I’ll have these two out sooner rather than later, if I can manage to keep myself from falling apart anymore. Keep your hooves crossed.
And to those who read through this, thank you. Being able to vent a little helps every now and then.
Feel better!
