For a long time as I grew up, I had a PS2. I played some fun games on there, like Ratchet and Clank, some fighting games, Twisted Metal 2- which I hid from my parents- and Kingdom Hearts. Now, I loved Kingdom Hearts, and I still do (and always will) but I could never... quite... beat it. I was stuck at the first real fight with Riku- the one with the two and a half minute long cutscene before it- for literal years, until I gave up... And so, for my entire teenage life, I never actually knew what happened at the end of KH 1. Sure, I played Kingdom Hearts 2, and I beat that, but I never got to experience the ending of the first game all for myself... and it made me sad.
So... after an hour's worth of hassle... I scraped up and emulator, a PS2 BIOS, an ISO of Kingdom hearts, and a controller to play it with.
And... I'm happy to finally say, after over twenty-four hours of playing... I beat it. Yeah... I save-scummed with my emulation, and I had to look at a walkthrough more than a few times, and I played on normal and didn't finish absolutely everything... but I did it. I look back, now, at a much younger me... and I think, "Wow... I was shit at video games."
