I'm curious. · 7:05am Jan 11th, 2017
It was brought to my attention by amiamera that Tartarus Forged is becoming one of those slow paced stories. Not by update, but by progression of events. I mean, we're still on the second episode nineteen chapters in! What the heck? I'm kind of embarrassed that this never occurred to me until now.
So, I wondered if I should try and speed up events. I did some thinking, weighting the pros and cons of a slow paced story. The cons, especially for a story that has a general chapter length of 1500 to 2000, are lots of cliffhangers, slow progression, and the author sometimes going weeks at a time without updating.
The pros are a lot more room for development, the possibility for complex plot-lines separating and intermingling with the main plot off and on, and I get to set the pace where I want, even occasionally speeding it up if I want to. Also, one of the plans I have for the story is that the in-between arcs chapters will be short snippets showing how Twilight affects the episodes of the show, while the arcs themselves will be the season premiers/finales.
In the end, I decided to keep the slow feeling and keep on plugging along at the rate we're going. However, I'm curious now. How many of you prefer fast paced stories, and would you like to see me make an attempt at a faster paced story on one of my other projects?
Fast paced stories are not your forte. You take your time becuase you are building your universe. Keep on going at your own pace.
I think the story is likely to be better if you write it the way you want to instead of rushing it.
I think the timing of the story progression is fine. I suspect he's seeing it as slow paced because of the short chapters.
If you read it all at once it's great, but just reading the latest chapter leaves a "that's all?" feeling.

Personally, I don't feel your story is 'slow'. Since you tackle the Nightmare Moon arc from one of the utmost different angle from the show. Several key points need to be explain in order to make the story 'believable' and 'reasonable' - and I think you did a good job so far.
If you write each chapter with 4,000-6,000 words, then it definitely will be fewer chapters. But that might not be your style and try to change your style abruptly would throw the story's momentum off.
I think you should write your story as you see fit. As long as you satisfy with your it, then it should result in a good story.
I say take your time. As you said, the slower pace means that you can give things the level of development that they deserve. I don't mind faster-paced stories (in fact, I predominantly wrote those myself back when I DID have the time and energy to do fan fiction) when they are well enough done, but I actually prefer the slower-paced stories. As was said by others, slower paced stories are more your forte.
It tends to be the slower paced, more detailed stories that are the better ones. Don't jump into things because a few people complain. Do your own thing and you will be a much happier writer.
The pace if great, really let's us get to know the main cast, I just wish it was all finished now so I can read it all and see how it was ends.
But that is just because I really like this story and knowing that it is not done dose nark me abit, but that is because I hate cliffhangers.
But this is YOUR story YOU set the pace that fits you.
