You know things have gotten serious when... · 5:54am Jan 9th, 2017
Whew. So, I've finally published Portents of Darkness, the latest chapter of Nightmare Nyx. This has been a long road coming, folks. You have no idea. The first draft of this chapter was written in October, 2014. It was good by those standards, but it's seen so many revisions that I've lost count. Each time, the chapter has gotten a lot better than the previous version.
In November, a couple months ago, we had just finished putting the finishing touches on it, preparing to publish. We were literally days away when we acquired a new editor. What none of us expected was that this would begin the effort to once again put the chapter through an overhaul. What more could be changed, I wondered. Surely, we're in "development hell" if we keep revising and revising with only minescule improvements.
Oh, but that's not what happened at all. This was a real treat. After spending over a month working closely with Orion, we've improved the chapter's quality by an order of magnitude. It was also a bit of a learning curve for me, as I'm getting accustomed to providing good world-building details.
We also decided to move the chapter's end point, which those of you who have seen previous drafts will surely notice. For everyone else, this should feel quite natural, and the current chapter end is... well, it's something. Things are getting serious and the plot has properly kicked in now. You're all in for quite a ride!
So enjoy this latest (and longest) installment of Nyx's adventures as an adult. The next chapter should be ready for an April 1st publishing while the team works frantically to continue development on other chapters.
