It Is Definitely Too Late to Do a New Year's Blog · 1:07am Jan 8th, 2017

Consider this a sequel to last week's blog. If you haven't read that one, the tl;dr version is this: 2016 sucked, but some good things happened, and I'm going to try and read a lot of books in 2017.

I wanted to follow that blog up, though, because I have one other fimfiction-relevant New Year's Resolution that I wanted to share with you all, because, so far, it's actually going rather well.

Around July last year, I decided to try to write a daily fic, because I wanted to use it as a chance to build writing into my daily schedule and hold myself accountable for the things I was writing. It went... okay? For a few days at a time. And then, after a little while, I just stopped altogether. So, this year, I've decided that enough is enough: I'm going to write a chapter of that fic every day, and I'm going to upload them every day.

"But Quill!" I hear you cry. "How can you have done this in July? You literally haven't posted any fanfiction to this site in over a year!"

Well...

Meet Scorpius. Scorpius is my alt. Scorpius is cool and has their own deviantart and writes dumb fanfic about ponies that looks suspiciously like a weirdly political Harry Potter. Scorpius also made a map one time and thinks it's really cool, if only the roads didn't look like they were scrawled on in MS Paint.

So why am I posting this fic to an alt? I mean, besides the obvious*, it's mostly because Solstice is not my best writing. Not by a long shot. That doesn't mean half the stuff on this account is my best writing, but... Solstice is a space for me to give myself permission to post stuff I know isn't good, for me to try to develop good habits at my own pace, and to slowly try to kick my bad writing habits. But that's going to take time, and for now, Solstice is a bit of a mess. And I'll be honest, I didn't really want that mess on my main account.

Anyway, the last week has felt... pretty great, getting something written every single day. I've been enjoying it, and I'm sometimes even a little pleased with the results! I'm hoping the next few weeks are going to keep being great, and I'd like to thank you all for putting up with my silliness and lack of actual, decent content. You're all pretty great
