Carrie Fisher · 11:11pm Dec 27th, 2016
I have some very sad news to share with anyone who happens to be reading this today. I've just learned that Carrie Fisher, probably most famous for her role as Princess Leia, and who just recently published a memoir earlier this year, has passed away after suffering a heart attack. It's always sad when somebody dies, when a public figure dies, but Fisher's loss feels especially painful given that she did some great feminist work and spoke out against sexism, and it's a excellent compounding of 2016's lists of celebrity deaths, and this one feels incredibly painful to me given that she was a woman in a voice in a year where the U.S Presidential election was decided by (among many, many other things) raw sexism.
So long, Miss Fisher. We will all miss you terribly, doubly so as you would have been one of the best voices to have around in what is sure to be a difficult upcoming year and painful presidential administration.
IN MEMORIAUM:
TO CARRIE FISHER, WHO MADE US LAUGH
October 21, 1956 - December 27, 2016.
As she said on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert just this year;
She should have gotten a lightsaber.
May she rest in peace.
