    Potentially The End

Due to the suddenly VERY uncertain landscape that TTRPGs have been dropped into thanks to Wizards of The Coast and Hasbro, I am now faced with a problem.

For those of you who don't really pay attention to the world of Dungeons and Dragons, something of a war has begun. It is the fans vs. D&D owner and creator, Wizards of the Coast and, by proxy, Hasbro.

    The cause for the war?

    WWII

I have received a number of comments since the posting of Chapter 5 of Tartarus Forged. Most of those comments were respectful in asking why I would reference the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki like I did, and I thank you for that tact, but some of you... were not.

    It Started With An Idea

This is something that I've had running around my head for the last month or so. It's not something overly complicated, but about half-way through writing down this synopsis, I realized this had more potential than as just a fan-fic story. Alter a few key facts, such as ponies being involved... and I may have something I could genuinely turn into a book to one day be published.

So, while working on Twilight's fears a little more, an opportunity presented itself to me. Now, I'm a big fan of the tropes Sealed Evil in a Can and Sealed in a Person-Shaped Can, and have been ever since I first laid eyes on NARUTO. It's one of the reasons why Luna is one of my favorite characters, if not the favorite. There's a lot of potential in her character for these tropes.

Considering Twilight was literally in the realm of demons for twenty years, I think it's safe to say she has interacted with more than her fair share of Eldritch Abominations, yes? What if one such abomination tried to take over her body because of her incredibly powerful magic? What if it succeeded, and forced Twilight to commit atrocities in her name, making her watch the entire time? What if Tirek sealed that evil away within her, preventing it from controlling her anymore?

What if the Nightmare Enchantment opened the door for it to try again, or at least to introduce it to the story?

Now, there's two things I want to know from you guys. First of all, do you think I should do it? The reason I hesitate is because there's already a bit going on in-story. Nothing complicated quite yet, but this will pin another subject to the board for me to keep track of. Again, we're not so far that I can't do it yet, but I need to be careful, or I'll end up with another The Harmony League on my hands. I want to do this, but I also want this story to keep going, so I'm leaving it up to you guys.

Second, if I do this, how do you think I should do it? I have a couple ideas. One is that I pull a Kyuubi gambit, where this thing is undeniably evil and will cause unholy hell for Twilight from time to time, but will also act to ensure her survival, since her survival also means its survival.

Another idea a Kurama gambit, where it's not necessarily evil, but certainly doesn't give two shits about much other than its own interests. It has a code of honor it follows, as well as it's own lines that it won't cross. It will from time to time help Twilight due to the enemies she faces being an affront to its own beliefs. Other than that, it happily just waits for the day Twilight dies of old age so it can be released back into Tartarus without negative side effects. Befriending this thing will be possible, but only after maybe the third Arc.

To be clear, a Kyuubi gambit in my eyes is the being antagonizing it's prison, but helping when the prison is in danger of dying to ensure it's own survival. A Kurama gambit is where the being doesn't really care what's happening most of the time, but will sometimes chip in to help its prison in tight situations.

So... What do you think?

good idea, but I would go with more of a split mindset that care for nothing but or death or destruction that pretty much a 180 flip of her normal self, very crule disturbing person, who enjoy bring pain to all,
, this alt mindset/personality that was form within twilight's mind in order to keep twilight safe in her early years as a slave to Tirek.
but it became to strong willed and powerfully that had to seal away by Tirek but it toke a lot of his store up power to do so,

Hum.... sorry, i'm not really hot for the idea. Would be in my opinion too sudden, SUDDENLY!Demon inside of Twilight... yeah, i can see that attractive, but.. i'm not really hot. :/

But that's only my opinion, and seriously, a lot of time, authors that i don't personally agree with but i don't care because they do it right. You're a good author, so i'll be alright with your final decision, and awaiting its result. ^^

I say skip it. You could have it being Twilight's big fear that she did get something that will never go away, but she never did because everyone was scared of crossing Tirek to even try.

if you think you can pull it off do it but hint at it at most for the moment like saying something along the lines

and as twilight left her mind she could have sworn she heard the sound of stone chips falling.

I'd go for it. Specifically, I would want to see the Kurama path, but with a twist. Their could have been an eldritch abomination in the past, and that is what she thinks is behind the door in her mind that represents the seal, but that's not what's behind it anymore. When Nightmare opens the door, expecting to find an ally, she get's punted out of Twilight's mind, and the last, and only, thing she sees is a pair of burning purple eyes. What is now behind the door, is Midnight Sparkle. Midnight is Twilight's other half of her fractured psyche, which split as a way to cope with everything that in Tartarus. Twilight adapted as well as she did, because Midnight took the brunt of what she truely felt about whatever was going on, like a filter for her emotions. At some point after the Abomination was sealed, Midnight managed to find a way to kill it, and absorb all of its not-inconsiderable power. What she didn't know, was that the seal targeted Eldritch power specifically, so now she was the one trapped. In comes Nightmare, and the rest is history.

So, what do you think?

*Reads BronyPonyMan's comment.*

*Looks at badninja with large, doe-like eyes, pouting.* Pleeeeeeeeease?

It sounds interesting, although I fear it could be a bit too much for Twilight (anthro, all-powerful, sword, escaped from hell, guns and sealed evil?). On the other hand the Midnight Sparkle idea sounds too good to pass down, so I say go for it, if you think you can do it. I really hope you can do it.

And now that I think about it, you could also do this with Sunset (Demon Sunset) or Rarity (Nightmare Rarity). The latter only if you want to include the comic-arc with the same name.

I would say, well, maybe include a reference to this idea as far as Twilight's big fear goes (i.e. she's tangled with some really nasty beings down in Tartarus and, while she got off relatively lucky in that none of them succeeded in possessing her, she might, VERY deep down, be terrified that one of the major nasties down in Tartarus MIGHT one day succeed [though she usually does a very good job keeping her fears enough in check in order to keep them from being obvious]), but, otherwise, don't go through with it. I can see where the thought might cross your mind, but, well, you've already got enough on your plate as it is without throwing something like this in from out of the blue. No disrespect intended.

Whatever you decide, however, I will still respect your decision and have enough faith in your writing skill to give it a fair chance.

Reading both those comments has me thinking it some kind of fusion third option.

Nightmare moon busts into Twilight mind expecting to find something that hitched along for the ride. Not finding anything and while Pinkie is doing her thing she leaves part of herself behind, accidentally or not.

Then you have the evil sealed in a humanoid can.

Also perhaps unrelated but Twilight seems to be mostly okay given her extended vacation in hell.

It is a good idea, however I also like Comickook's idea a lot!

4348198 So I take it you liked it?

her biggest fear is Tirek escape and gain freedom and come after her and her family and friends, and everyone's magic

Do it. This has awesome potential for twilight and spike becoming even closer best friends! Ā la twilight bringing spike back from his greed growth. I could just see him in the aftermath of his destruction, crying in her lap trying to push her away.

"N-no! *sniff * *hic* s-stop! Get away! Get away I'm a monster! *sob* I don't want to hurt you. I'm a monster!"

Twilight pulled him closer, her expression taunt as she made soothing noises, while rocking him back and forth. As his sobs petered off, twilight gently lifted his chin. His bloodshot eyes met hers and he gave a weak push.

"Puh-please twilight, I don't want to hurt you. I-I'm... I'm a monster." Spike said.

Twilight gave him a crooked smile as she smoothed back his spines. "Hey," she placed her forehead against his, her tone playful, " I'm a monster too."

:twilightsmile::moustache: BEST BROS.

First u should write what u want to write, if u stop liking to write the story we wont be seeing any story updates.

The only problem i can see might be twilight's sword and it being harmful to evil beings. Would a sword even make a distinction between twilight an the other being?

If so or no, I look forward to read whatever u are planing to write.

I like the Kurama idea but with how her sword works it would have to be a creature that is not completely evil.

Hrm, I like the idea of sealed malevolence. But not so much a sentient entity.

Something more along the lines of Midnight Sparkle from EQG. A fountain of dark and terrible power, that when unleashed can drive one to near insanity, but not a completely separate being.

That seems like something she'd have imbued within her throughout her time in Tartarus to survive, if not just accumulated naturally as her body became her magical conductor instead of her horn.

That route just seems to come more naturally and would at first glance seem easier to write than a separate personality/entity within.

So that's my two cents. TLDR - Sealed evil in a can, where the evil is a huge mass of corrupting power instead of a sentient evil fox :derpytongue2:

Edit: re-read the blog, also want to put forth a vote of perhaps a Kurama-esque thing as well, as a backup if my idea isn't appealing.

4348983 I admit, that makes a lot more sense than just having a demon shoved in her gut. Definitely something to consider.

My two cents: I love the idea, more the kurama varient; but like you said... too much going on. I recommend dropping a story seed for future use. I also suggrst that Twilight recognizes what is going on, but has more important things going on.

Another two cents: Tirek and Twilight didn't seem to have the kind of relationship where he would bail her out of a bad situtation. I would suggest that she was struggling with the possession, but had not lost. Tirek gets impatient and seals it, basically saying "I want you to do something now, deal with your problems on your own time."
