    Leaving Tracks: Nine Years

I'm a few days late. Happy ninth anniversary to "Inner Strength", and to the rebirth of my passion as an author.

Bout time for an update, eh?

Not a big enough update to qualify for Rabbit Tracks, but this is just to say: Work is continueing on "Just a Pony", albeit slowly. Two more chapters down, then I got sidetracked by videogames, now I'm sidetracked by homework and sickness, and then hopefully back to "Just a Pony" soon!

    Irony

I tried to write a blog about how I haven't been able to write. I accidentally hit ctrl+r and refreshed the page, losing everything I had written. A cruel bit of irony. I am tired and angry with myself and scared for my future as a writer and I do not have the energy to retype it, so pretend there is some sincere and heartfelt explanation here and you're moved by the struggles of some weird

Pictures should be fixed across all stories

At this point if anyone is seeing broken images in my fics on Fimfiction please let me know! For anyone looking for a new image hosting site with Discord having done the Big Suck, I used Postimages and it was rather simple and efficient.

    Image hosting

Real quick, I know my images are all borked again; what are folks using for image hosting these days? Needs to be free and the less likely it is to implode the better... I was using Discord until just recently which is why this mess happened lmao

Derpibooru tag · 8:21am Nov 23rd, 2016

I was stoked that someone added a Velestia tag to Derpibooru, but now there's a Just Like Old Times tag too :pinkiegasp:

I mean, that's pretty cool and all, I'm just a little confused :twilightsheepish: Is that normal? I don't think I've ever noticed fanfiction tags before. Especially when the fanfiction tag has 100% overlap with the pre-existing ship tag lol

Both of these pictures were done by How Do Ponies Work?, and can be found on her Tumblr here and here. While we're on the subject, Pasu-Chan also did a Velestia sketch that I don't think I ever linked.

You might find the fanfiction specific tag might get nuked, the other one will likely stay, since it describes a ship.

Hrmm, makes me wonder—seeing that extra image—if there is maybe hope of Night Light and Luna having a fun little friendship based around seeing the mares they love have a good time.

Yeah, I figured that might be the case. The second How Do Ponies Work? image isn't even related to the story directly anyway, so the tag seems a tad silly. Of course, I'm very flattered someone thought to do it all the same :scootangel:

I definitely imagine it brought the two of them closer. With the rest of the family living in Ponyville or the Crystal Empire, I would certainly imagine the four of them get together at least for smaller holidays that don't warrant travel. Plus I always headcanoned Night Light as being an astrologist, and plausibly working with Luna before.

4314336 Interesting headcanon. I believe by one semi-official source, he is a book-binder. In the "before they got together" story I wrote, he was a member of the royal guard, wearing the clever armor that puts an illusion on them to make them look alike. Twilight Velvet was a member of Celestia's "monster hunters," and they got teamed up to deal with bugbears (or bumblebears as they kept insisting they should be called).

Much as I would want to ship Luna and Night Light, I think it would be better as purely platonic, even though it would be delightful to have Celestia and Luna at opposite ends of a little poly group, with nothing actually linking them together other than the ponies they love, loving each other.

Which source is that from? When I first started writing Night Light I couldn't find any semi-official source, which is why I made my own headcanon. Of course, that was a while ago, and I know I've missed a ton of secondary sources.

I've been meaning to read that story, by the way :twilightblush: I just read very slowly and take forever to read new stories.

I agree about Luna/Night Light. Although Luna's personality is very open to interpretation, while Night Light's canon personality is pretty much non-existent, so I certainly wouldn't rule out the ship. But based on how I interpret both of them, I just see it as platonic.

I believe you should start a Deviantart group to collect all these pictures. They will be easier to find that way and in my experience 'booru images tend to disappear with time.

4314374 From the mobile game: "In the game, Twilight Velvet is named and Night Light is referred to simply as 'Twilight's Dad.' Their house in-game is named 'Night Light Book Binding House.' "

I hear that in regards to reading. Friends keep sending me suggestions to read, but my excuse is "If I spend more time reading it is less time writing!" I even renamed "read it later" to "procrastinate about reading it later." :rainbowlaugh:

Unless im mistaken there is a tag that goes "fanfic:name" similar to how there is a "comic:name" tag so it should be "fanfic:just like old times"

Most of the pictures related to my stories are drawn by Pasu-Chan, who doesn't keep her dA up to date. How Do Ponies Work? isn't even on dA, insofar as I'm aware. Both these artists primarily exist on Tumblr, where I'm also very active. I reblog pictures related to me (or TwiShySet in general, since that's more or less related to me) with the tag 'the best possible thing' for easy viewability, although admittedly I ought to make a button on my Tumblr for viewing. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the rights of artists to decide where they host their artwork (just as I wouldn't be thrilled to find my story hosted somewhere without my knowledge), so I wouldn't dream of uploading their work onto dA myself.

Link for easy access, if you're interested

Ah, I see. Not sure if the game came out after I had already written Night Light as an astrologist, or if I was just always unaware of that detail :twilightblush: I do tend to take secondary canon when available.

lol that's pretty much me exactly :derpytongue2: If I'm doing something with words these days, it's probably my own. Though I do miss spending hours on end reading, which got me into fanfiction in the first place.

4314387 He could just be an amateur astronomer, which really is a sweeter thing when all is said and done, since he only gazes at Luna's moon and stars for the love of it.

One thing you can do, if they remove the tag, is to build a gallery of the images and link to that.

4314383
I see. I'm not too familiar with Derpibooru's tagging rules (to be honest, I have no idea how one even goes about making a tag). This was just something interesting I noticed, which I thought I'd share :twilightsheepish:

4314389
Indeed it would be  The backstory I gave him is he did go into the field out of love, taking on an unpaid internship while he was still a student at Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns. From there, he just continued working in the same field until he became the Senior Astrologist. (Incidentally, I separate astrology as the study of how the stars affect magic, whereas astronomy is equal to the human study of the stars as physical entities in their own right).

One thing you can do, if they remove the tag, is to build a gallery of the images and link to that.

Not quite sure what you mean here. On Derpibooru? The tag is a bit pointless, since it's just the Velestia tag more or less (turns out there is a third Velestia image, it's just hidden by my content filter for being an incest clop pic with Celestia and both Twilights). Most images related to my stories only exist on Tumblr, anyway (or on my Fimfiction blog, if permission was given from the artist to share it). I believe only three of the approximately forty or so pictures related to my writing is on Derpibooru (four counting the second Velestia picture here, which really wasn't based on my writing at all)

4314387 I mean you could upload them to your dA (or ask them to upload them to theirs). I don't think they will object. It's just nice to have the pics nicely organized this way. For example, here I've made a dA group called Optimalverse to hold all pictures related to Friendship is Optimal and related stories.

Yup, Robin and you turned us into Velestia trash :trixieshiftright:

4314402
It's obviously fine so long as every artist is on board with it, but I don't have much of a desire to do it. It just wouldn't sit right with me when I know that most people don't follow links back to the artist's own preferred location. People generally don't want to make accounts on websites they're not already on, and far too many people hold the incorrect opinion that just because something exists on the internet it is meant to be shared in any way, shape, or form (just look at the amount of stories that don't credit artists or even go so far as to say 'I don't know who did the cover art I just found it on Google'). I'll leave mirroring content up to the original creator, just as I would like mirroring my stories to be left up to me.

Besides, I'm not active on dA, so the payoff for me would be minimal (lol back to that whole 'hard to get people into sites that they're not already on'). I have thought of making a Tumblr exclusively for reblogging pictures based on my writing, so that way people could follow that without having to see every other thing that I reblog, but I wouldn't do anything beyond that.

I do wish you best of luck with your Optimalverse group. As a bigger series with a lot more artwork, and as such a lot more artists who are already on dA, a group for that makes a lot more sense.

4314435
An accomplishment I can most certainly be proud of :scootangel:

4314457
That's what the consensus is. So in the meantime, it's just a quirky thing I noticed :raritywink:
