Fanon Clarified: Who Do The 6 Like To, erm, Cuddle?

A peer and pre-reader of mine pointed me to a blog post that went into as much detail about what makes the Mane 6 "tenders their loins" as I do, but as a blog post. Since I wrote a story where my fanon on the subject was a big chunk of it, I've now decided to clarify these details in my very first blog post on here.

Okie doke, to start with, ponies do not really use "gay, straight, bi". They have individual preferences, so to ask one what their sexuality is invites a sentence, possibly a paragraph of explanation, rather than a single word. Furthermore, "filly fooler" and "colt cuddler" is going to just sound like you're calling them a pedophile.

Twilight Sparkle has't figured herself out yet. Years spent in scholarly isolation stunted her social growth. Up until a little while ago, she was still learning about friendship and she hasn't gotten around to what's so great about rubbing a pair of genitals together is yet. She isn't without a libido, it's just that it is a faceless need that she hasn't unmasked yet. Until then, she's groping around blindly until she happens to grope something she likes.

Rainbow Dash would screw over any humans she met by looking to seem she must be what they call "gay" but actually fitting the definition of "straight". She likes stallions and, therefore, really, really doesn't like stallions. She is married to her career and to the sky, and feels that any relationship will tie her down. Casual relationships are off the table as well, because hidden deep inside that pegasus is an inner romantic just waiting to be set free. She feels it and fears any overtures towards the firmer sex may very well end in "making spaghetti".

Applejack, meanwhile, fits far more closely to what humans might term "gay". Unlike Rainbow Dash, she didn't lock her sexuality in a closet and has further explored it with self-relfection to give it nuance. She wants a soft, very effeminate mare and it's a preference she shares with her brother. This was a source of near conflict between them when they met that pretty pegasus who lived at the edge of town by the woods, one day long before that fateful Summer Sun Celebration. AJ decided to be the bigger mare then and tried to bring them together.

It, uh, it didn't end well.

Rarity fits the definition of "bi" but she's pickier than simply going for everyone. She likes her potential partners to not be of their sex, for her stallions to not be stallions and her mares to not be mares. So far, she's only displayed her preferences for effeminate stallions, but that's because any masculine mares she finds have a lot to live up to when compared to Applejack or Rainbow Dash. As it is, a previously established platonic relationship is huge turn-off for her. Whatever attraction she had for those two before the six came together is thoroughly dead.

Fluttershy lies as the opposite of Rarity, being "bi" but with a preference that her potential partner exemplify their sex. This has led her in either direction towards Rarity, to whom she is but an object of abstract beauty on that front, and Big Mac, for whom Applejack's good intentions ended up souring any potential for in a time before. This says nothing of her huge reticence, the "shy" part of her name not at all being ironic. This is countered by the fact that she is, to put it bluntly, gorgeous.

Pinkie fits what we might call "pansexual" or "demisexual". I also like Estee's recent story ousting her as a "trysexual", as in "That sounds fun, let's try it!" Pinkie has a spinning roulette wheel of infatuations with different ponies, crushes that can last between a day and a month. During those periods, she has a single target sexuality on them and them alone. Most such episodes have focused around her six best friends, whom she is closest to and admires the most. Rainbow Dash has long been in the lead, as well.

I could see that with Pinkie Pie. In the show it always seemed like you could make a case that Pinkie is really into Rainbow Dash at times but it is certainly harder to argue about whether Dash would feel the same. At the same time Pinkie having a revolving door of preferences (well at least right now since she is not attached to anybody yet) can be funny and an interesting way to go about it.

Also it would be an interesting circumstance since Dash does not typically look at mares that way but at the same time Pinkie would likely not make her feel too tied down (I could see Pinkie being ok with Dash being away for her work or even travel with her setting up a food cart or something and selling at events), Pinkie would have no issue with Dash showing her inner romantic, and Dash would not need to worry about "making spaghetti" at least potentially (assuming of course that what you mean by "making spaghetti" is either having a kid or feeling like being in more "traditional" female roles in human societies where Dash would be staying at home rather than out in the work force either way Pinkie is happy as Dash is now and would not likely put Dash in a position where she would feel compelled to stay home if she did not want to and of course without some outside influence she would not need to worry about pregnancy either with Pinkie).
