Election day · 6:37am Nov 8th, 2016

I feel discomfiture regarding this topic especially making this blog, and given the vitriol of this campaign, it's not hard to see why. Regardless, I feel compelled to write about it briefly. Those reading this who are not living in the United States, please bear with me.

Now, to be clear, I don't have a strong liking for either candidate. As Henry Cates said (and meaning no offense to anyone, I'm largely venting my feelings), "the problem with political jokes is they get elected." That's basically the situation we're in right now; two people who are not paragons of virtue - both are opposite of such a description, in fact - are poised to become president. I must admit, I wish we had two paragons of virtue to vote for; the only conflict then would be over which was nicer than the other, which is hardly the worst kind of thing to happen.

Yet the choice belongs to the voter regarding who to vote for. I think most of my readers will know who I'm going for, and while I'm not enamored of him, (not so) long story short, I think he's better than the alternative.

I will ask, though I have no right to expect it, that people voting for either side remember that those on the opposing side are just as human as the viewer/reader/voter is, and that respect be maintained, even though inevitably people will disagree, not only with the candidates, but on the platforms and issues at stake. We have our views on how the United States should turn out, and I earnestly hope we maintain the freedom to continue to have the privilege - paid for by prayer as well as blood and toil - of choosing our leaders, along with the liberties given us by the Constitution, as opposed to the dictatorships that have taken power across the globe, in particular North Korea but also including states like Iran and Cuba amongst their ranks.

May God go with you all, and hopefully, regardless of who wins and loses, we can have a great Thanksgiving and Christmas afterwards.

And now a word from my (not) sponsors (just joking, but still);

Words of wisdom, my friend. While I can't necessarily promise that I will be nice to the ruling class, I will definitely show respect to the rank and file of those who disagree with me. Appreciate the reminder.

And that's why this Election's theme song is this.

Well said. :raritywink: We should also be glad that we have the other two branches of government to keep whoever wins in check.
And yes, we should definitely reincarnate Lincoln and make him the next President! Make it happen science!

4290076 Thanks, that's about all I can ask for here :rainbowdetermined2:

4290328 If only we had him for prez this year... but we don't. :raritydespair:

4290151 If I spoke more Latin, that vid might make more sense. The lyrics don't sound positive, though.

My thanks for all of you being here :twilightsmile:
