The Quickening: The number 6 in My Little Pony · 5:00pm Nov 6th, 2016

The number of the beast and the most popular starter pokémon of all time. But what does that have to do with My Little Pony? Well, believe it or not, this series has a bizarre but close relationship with the number 6. Let's see why.

The most obvious clue are the main characters. The series had a balance by giving to each race two representatives until season 4.

The title of the show has 6 words.

A crucial word used in the show a lot of times, "friend", has 6 letters.

But these clues are the most obvious, let's deep into the more specific.

***

Although the Mane 6 are the protagonists, they don't appear in each and every single episode. Most of them focus on one or two characters or they are on supporting roles when other characters, like the CMC's, take the lead. But if we take into account the overall numeration all the Mane 6 appear in episodes:

6 (Boast Busters)
16 (Sonic Rainboom)
26 (The Best Night Ever)
36 (Secret of my Excess)
46 (It's About Time)
56 (One Bad Apple)
66 (Princess Twilight Sparkle-Part 1)
76 (Three's a Crowd)
86 (Testing Testing 1, 2, 3)
96 (Tanks for the Memories)
116 (The Cutie Re-mark-Part 1)
and 126 (The Saddle Row Review)

We have an episode to mention here: 106. The episode with this number is "Rarity Investigates!" but if we remember correctly, the one which had this number originally was "Scare Master", which featured the Mane 6. So let's count it for a brief moment.

As we can see the Mane 6 may not appear in all the episodes, but they appear in all the episodes finished with a 6 except one: 136 ("The Fault in Our Cutie Marks"), which is not entirely out of this theory.

The next fact draws attention: the titles of the episodes, If we ignore the two-parts episodes (since they always have the "Part 1" and "Part 2" suffix), these are the episodes with the biggest amount of words:

The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000
For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils
Make New Friends but Keep Discord
Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?
The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows
The Gift of the Maud Pie
The Times They Are A Changeling
The Fault in Our Cutie Marks

All of them have 6 words and some of them have importance to the series, whether inside or outside its universe: "The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000" introduced Flim and Flam with their machine (which probably has the 6000 at the end to not being obsolete too soon), "For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils" is probably the best CMC-Luna episode, "The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows" gave us a hint of Flurry Heart for the next season, "The Fault in Our Cutie Marks", which has a 6 in its numeration and finally both "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?" and "The Times They Are A Changeling" are the most controversial episodes of their respective seasons since they are loved and hated for the same reasons.

Our last coincidence is related to something external:

I don't need to introduce her since we all know who she is but is important to think over about this: her previous works, The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, lasted a total of 6 seasons. And with both series season 6 was considered the weakest of the bunch... just like My Little Pony (which doesn't fit in this standard anymore since season 7 has been confirmed).

As you can see, the number 6 appears very often in the series and sometimes in details so obscure is hard to believe they are more than a coincidence. Three months ago I did this same analysis for the number 14, many people claimed to me that it was forced and... yeah I can agree with them now so I tried to improve it with this. You're free to comment whatever you like about this topic.

After all this analysis, what do you think of this theory? Do you think these coincidences were made by accident or on purpose? What does the number 6 means to you?
