Well, that reveal went better than expected. A LOT better. How much better? Multiple comments and PMs asking to hear about how Sunset wound up as she is in Exile's Journey. Well, I guess sense I have it all detailed out in her backstory section of her character profile, I might as well make a short story out of it for you guys.
But first, want to know where I got part of the idea? In the My Little Pony Annual 2013 mini-comic The Fall of Sunset Shimmer, Princess Celestia shows the Crystal Mirror to Sunset Shimmer, her personal student at the time. In her reflection, Sunset sees herself as an Alicorn princess and briefly as a human.
My first thought was "What if it's Sunset's mirror world counterpart that becomes the Alicorn?" And so this came to pass.
Whelp, I'll crank out a short story. Fair warning, I'm not going to make Popmannn edit this one. He's seemingly very busy this week, as I've never had him ask to delay editing on a chapter more than once in the same week before. You might spot an error here or there, but I'll do my best and so will Grammarly.

This is where Sunshine Shimmer is been in all your stories huh cool. She's actually my favorite character from those movies so yeah. She's a lot better than some new characters.
