    Asking for Help

Someone very close to me, as well as a co-author on *Survivor's Guilt*'s sister's cat is in bad shape. He needs eye surgery badly, and they need to raise money. If anyone out there can help, please do.

    Your Turn to Roll

I'm not gonna spoil it, but if anyone that follows me is a fan of darker, more intense fantasy stories, check out the Legend of Vox Machina on Amazon Prime. Season 1 finished today, and season 2 is gonna be awesome.

Fallout: Equestria Reviews: Introduction and Prologue · 6:05pm Oct 30th, 2016

Video made by L.Y.R.A. Animations.

---Introduction---

Well, this is as good a place to start as any, the introduction is what sets up the world and laying the groundwork for the rest of the fanfic. So lets get started with the introduction itself since its pretty short.

Once upon a time, in the magical land of Equestria...

…there came an era when the ideals of friendship gave way to greed, selfishness, paranoia and a jealous reaping of dwindling space and natural resources. Lands took up arms against their neighbors. The end of the world occurred much as we had predicted -- the world was plunged into an abyss of balefire and dark magic. The details are trivial and pointless. The reasons, as always, purely our own. The world was nearly wiped clean of life. A great cleansing; a magical spark struck by pony hooves quickly raged out of control. Megaspells rained from the skies. Entire lands were swallowed in flames and fell beneath the boiling oceans. Ponykind was almost extinguished, their spirits becoming part of the ambient radiation that blanketed the lands. A quiet darkness fell across the world...

…But it was not, as some had predicted, the end of the world. Instead, the apocalypse was simply the prologue for another bloody chapter in pony history. In the early days, thousands were spared the horrors of the holocaust by taking refuge in enormous underground shelters known as Stables. But when they emerged, they had only the hell of the wastes to greet them. All except those in Stable Two. For on that fateful day when spellfire rained from the sky, the giant steel door of Stable Two swung closed, and never re-opened.

Its a good solid introduction, while its short the imagery of bombs falling and the apocalypse are gripping and makes the reader want to learn more about what's going to happen next. Its a good introduction, though there is one thing about it that's worth being mentioned, it is basically the same introduction as Fallout 3's. This isn't necessarily a bad thing and it doesn't take away from the rest of the fanfic, but its still worth mentioning.

---Prologue: Of PipBucks and Cutie Marks---

The prologue is where we get our first look at LittlePip, though she doesn't start out by talking about herself like you'd expect of a first person story like this, instead she starts out with a bit of worldbuilding by talking about PipBucks. Its actually a nice bit of storytelling because it works to explain how the PipBuck works to anyone who might not be familiar with their Fallout counterpart, this is a good way to give a frame of reference for people who are just getting into it as My Little Pony fans.

Of course there is more to this, it also serves as the first mention of Velvet Remedy, who would become important later. It also served to explain the world of Stable 2, and give some backstory to LittlePip herself and what had driven her as a filly and what kind of things she did to try and get her Cutie Mark, this is actually interesting because it does well to establish her character and set up her skil lset that she'll be using throughout the fanfic.

These moments do well to establish Littlepip's character and the world of Fallout: Equestria, while it doesn't really start the story, which begins in the next chapter, but it kinda makes you want to learn more about her. Plus the thing about her mom not calling her Pipsqueak kinda makes me laugh.

---Prologue: Of PipBucks and Cutie Marks---

So, final thoughts here, its a good start to the fanfic, not perfect, but a good start. KKat did a good job to establish the characters early on and would start the plot pretty quickly. This was a good start to the fanfic and set up the world well, it made me want to read more of it in the future, and I really liked it.

I give the Introduction and Prologue a score of 4 out of 5.

Fallout: Equestria belongs to KKat, all credit goes to them.

Good review are these going to be chapter by chapter or grouped together (3/5 chapters at a time):pinkiehappy:

Also what was the song in that first video in stuck in my head.:moustache:

4277606 You know, I'm not actually sure, its been in some Fallout related things, but I don't know what its called.

4277606 And yes it'll be one or two chapters at a time, it depends on the length of the chapters. My next review will probably be of one of the lesser known fanfics instead of chapter 1 of the original, I don't want to give KKat or Somber all the attention, its not fair to the other authors out there that deserve attention.

4277631 cool oh the songs is actually called 'dear hearts and gentle people' by Bob Crosby and the Bobcats

4277633 Ah, well I didn't know that.

4277634 yeah I checked cause that first video is what convinced me to read fallout Equestria in the first place:twilightsheepish: it sort of a guilty pleasure song.:moustache:

4277636 Ah.

Well I just have to decide what to review next, I'm thinking chapter 1 of Fallout Equestria: Surviving Light by FaultyScrewdriver.

Nice review! :raritywink:

By the way, in case you didn't know, most of the first half of FoE's intro is taken from Fallout 2, while the second half is from 3. It is a little disappointing that Kkat didn't come up with a completely original intro, but the two existing ones were spliced together quite smoothly.

FO2's Introduction (the Ron Perlman narration)

4278398 Oh, oops, well that's my fault for not looking more into it, thanks for reading the review at least, the next one will be... whenever I decide what it'll be, I'm thinking Fallout Equestria: Surviving Light's first chapter, still kinda deciding.

4278398 Thank you. That was actually intentional. Considering how obvious the Fallout 3 homages and similarities would be, I wanted to immediately key in readers familiar with the Fallout series who preferred the first two games that Fallout: Equestria would pay homage to them as well.

4302317 That makes sense, I certainly enjoyed the reference despite my comments on it, and the references to the first two as well as the third game. I'll be exploring this more in future reviews.

That does make sense. Too many people in the Fallout fanbase look down on or dismiss those who've only played the Bethesda titles.
