how do people do it? · 10:06am Oct 29th, 2016
sweet nightmare how do some of you guys do it? I had the most inspiration I've ever had for a single idea hit me at once. I sat down to write it out thinking it'd be awesome and a epic story to rival Homers Iliad (even if it was a one-shot). and it was Barely 800 words. I spent 2 hours trying to stretch out my descriptions and add details to get that last 200.
I felt good for managing to get it out. then I remember there's dudes out there belting out 3 +2000 word chapters a day. (looking at you tats)
how the bloody hell do you guys do it?
I dunno. All my ideas rival the length of the Iliad/odyssey.
4287798 oh sure rub it in.
4287847 Sorry. My advice is add more to the chaperone chapter in any way.
Luck really. If I were to condense all my ideas at most they would reach 1500 words tops each time I wrote a chapter and that's if I don't decide to get wordy.
For ideas you have to parse them out slightly and figure out what you want to say. There is a certain build up between thinking an idea and writing it out. For most of my time if I didn't add dialogue at all it would barely reach 1000 words at least just from descriptions and writing out actions.
That kind of segways to what you write and how you write it. Take this for an EX:
Spike picked up and quill and wrote down Twilight's words.
to
Spike lifted a quill pressing the tip against the newly minted scroll as it danced across the paper transcribing everything Twilight spoke about in her studious tones as she was privy to do.
You see a really big difference between how blunt I wrote the first sentence to how intricate I wrote the next. Those small little actions help allow readers to visualize as you see the scene, but there is a chance you might go too far in that direction as well. Depending on what you are writing changes how descriptive you want to be. It's why some people are better at writing clop than others because they know the best way to make you enjoy it is to be as visceral as they possibly can be because it affects you on a subconscious level.
I do not have a Life, simple really. I go to work, I do stuff on Fim, I watch some Netflix, I go to Bed, Repeat.
