To Where and Back Again + The Last Battle (SPOILERS) · 3:48am Oct 23rd, 2016
Well, today was certainty a big day.
The NA airing of the season 6 finale has come and gone, putting us once again on the hiatus highway. I was disappointed Lightning Dust didn't show up, but thinking about it after the fact it would've been overwhelming to cram in time for interaction and characterization for a sizable squad of oddballs and outcasts in the span off 44 minutes. With that said, witnessing the trust issues between Starlight, Trixie, Thorax, and Discord was quite an enjoyable experience.
Trixie's continued exploration of her career as a illusionist was pretty cool. She fares well in a situation when her magic is rendered inaccessible and has to rely on tricks of the trade and ingenuity. Pity we didn't get to see more of her magical talent, but "No Second Prances" seems to have taken care of that.
In terms of Starlight's growth as a character, I find it somewhat satisfying. She's made a few friends, made amends with old enemies, and has grown powerful in magic thanks to Twilight (let's face it, Starlight is MLP's resident Starkiller). But with the conclusion, some ends remain loose. Where does Starlight go from now on? Does she remain in Ponyville, or does she return to Our Town? Will we continue to see growth in her character next season? Why is she so damn powerful in magic? Will she and Sunburst ever do the nasty?
Come to think of it, where was goatee guy in all this?
And what about the changelings now they have undergone a major evolution?
Too many questions.
In other news, the latest episode of Star Wars Rebels, "The Last Battle" aired today. In a nutshell, we were treated with a major Clone Wars nostalgia trip that seems somewhat inspired by the Battlefront II mission with Gizor Delso and the real life stories of Japanese soldiers who continued to fight World War II well into the 1960's due to isolation on remote island outposts. What really hit home was the music; at one point we hear a remix of the Battle of Christophsis theme from the movie, and good God that was an emotional moment of reminiscence. I found myself back at the cinema on 15 August 2008 with my grandfather.
And of course the return of General Kalani from The Clones Wars' Onderon arc:
The third chapter of Tales of the Equestria Girls should be under the peer review phase in a few days. If anyone is interested in checking it over, send me a PM with your email.
He sent Thorax to recruit Twilight and company. Remember, Sunburst is a living demonstration that knowledge and power don't always sync up. He wouldn't have been especially useful even if the changelings didn't have a giant chunk of screwyounium in their hive.
