News before bed - 10/17/16 NEO EDITION · 4:22am Oct 18th, 2016
GOOD NEWS, EVERYONE!
First, you heard that in Professor Farnsworth's voice. Secondly, writing is seriously happening now because I finally got my...ALPHASMART NEO! WOOOOO!
Here is a picture of what said device looks like (picture not mine):
This thing is like a writer's wet dream. WishyWish, whom I have mentioned before, turned me onto this device. She has one and swears by it, saying that it has increased her output tremendously, and I can see it! I've been able to spend a few hours with it and I've already busted out a good chunk of the next chapter of One For The Archives. I looooove this thing. Neo, where have you been all my life? I'd've killed to have one of these a long time ago. *whistles and hides the knife*
Keep your eyes peeled (and your bananas too) for more of OFTA, and then TTS, and, maybe, just maybe, the stirrings of another story...we shall see.
Huh, didn't knew people were using things like that past the 90s.does it at least have a back-lit screen?
I might consider getting one myself, it does seem quite handy for first drafts, no distractions line in a laptop.

That's the best part, and it's why I do all my writing on one too. No distractions. Just you and the pictures in your mind as you write. No email, internet, chatting, etc etc to keep you from getting to your writing goal.
What's also awesome about it is there's no bootup like a laptop (you push a button and you're right back where you left off in about 3 seconds), and the battery life is INSANE. 700+ hours is what it's rated for. I've had one for half a year now and my battery is still showing 97%. A truly *portable* device, unlike computers that have to be tethered to an outlet every two hours or so.
Think of it as writing in a personal notebook (a paper notebook), only you're typing. And the fact that its compatible with literally any computer that can recognize a keyboard and has a word processor program on it, regardless of OS, is handy too!
4260600 It does not have a backlit screen, sadly, but think of the energy you're saving without one! Still...no writing in very dark, dimly lit places. >:3
4260714 Sounds quite enticing, gonna have to look into getting one.
4261172 Well, that's not a big problem, it can be solved by getting a very low power led lamp with its own power source, these can last ages too.

It's not backlit, no, but there are advantages to that too. For one, you never have to adjust brightness, and two, it is very easy to see both in subdued light and direct sunlight - no screen glare like you get from computers. The only time you'll need a light is if you want to work in very low lighting or relative darkness.
