My Twilight Facade's One Year Anniversery!

When I first began writing fanfiction, I had this idea for an epic saga that would span the entire My Little Pony series. The events throughout would have built up to a climactic final battle among all the gods to determine the fate of Equestria. I thought it sounded awesome; large battles, apocolyptic showdowns, and entirely too much collateral damage. The series would have lasted

My Twilight Hiatus · 10:52pm Oct 11th, 2016

So updates have been slow, as I'm sure many of you have noticed. My reasons are pretty easy to pinpoint, so let's not beat around the bush here: I just don't have the motivation.

Sure, when I started writing this story, I was so into it that I could release a new chapter every week. The thing is, that was back before I had a job. With nothing distracting me from writing my surprisingly successful tale of the asshole turned friendly, I spent most of my time every day just writing the next scene and proofreading.

Then I got a full-time job, and my schedule got split. For a while, I was able to work like that and get things done at a rapid pace. But now, today, I'm just really tired. Most of my critical thinking is dedicated to thinking of rewording and re-imagining this story's inevitable conclusion and major plot points. I obsess over what kind of things I need to happen to further build to the end. So strong in my obsession with this story that any free time I spend away from it feels like a betrayal of the deepest and most unforgivable kind. Yet when the time comes to write my thoughts on a blank white screen, I weakly pen a few hundred words, yawn obnoxiously and put the rest of it off to later. Then later comes, and I decide it can wait for another day. The cycle repeats.

For months, being stuck in the cycle of greatly desiring to make headway in my story and reluctance to actually go through with it is finally taking its toll. In addition, my job, which takes about forty hours of my time every week, needs a little work. I'll be stuck in a dead end if I don't buckle down at some point to get my license and certification, which I need to advance at all.

I need to take a break from My Twilight Facade. I need that time to study, relax, and get my passion back.

So here's the deal: This story is on hiatus. The hiatus will end when I get my certifications. At that time, I'll fire back with a big chapter with a word count that'll far surpass any chapter from before. Two new characters will be introduced, lies revealed, hi-jinks ensued, and what I hope to be a welcome return to storytelling.

Until then, this is one tired brony who needs more sleep. I'm out.

I know those feels all too well. My job required me to work 10 hr+ days and mandatory OT on top of that. It didn't leave me with much time to do anything, really. Bottom line is: take whatever time you need. We can wait.

May the force be with you

Try not to die hun :pinkiecrazy:

Do what needs to be done, but don't feel obligated to write long chapters for the sake of giving us more content. Make them the length that they need to be, not what you think we should be entitled to for the "inconvenience."

Wow well good luck with that, just remember to take regular breaks otherwise you might end up learning lesson Zero :twilightoops:

Thanks for what there is of the story - it's a lot of work, and I enjoyed it!
Making it something you're not looking forward to because you're obsessing over it is not healthy either.
I hope you're in a place you feel happy writing in the nearish future, and that your other things go well!

That sounds like a good plan, but I want to remind you not to push yourself too hard when you decide to get back to writing. It might be smart to start with a short chapter that is just the scene you mentioned cutting from the end of this one to get back into the swing of things and then move on to the next arc after you publish that. Also, when you do move on to the next arc, don't worry if you need to spread those chapters out instead of making them one release or if you need to cut them into more chapters to make writing them more manageable.

WE WILL MISS YOU!:raritycry:

I know what it is like to spend all your time working, so I completely understand what you are saying. In fact, I'm surprised that you were able to keep it up until now. Please "rest" well. I, your loyal fan will faithfully wait until your return.

Take time to relax and enjoy life for bit. Everything will be fine with a little time.

Well, I've been on a hiatus since 2009. Zeal doesn't necessarily come from success or gauruntee you greater returns. Especially with all the autocratic hotheads, pragmatic solipsists, and hare brained hucksters denying you a payoff when you've already proven yourself more reliable if not committed (perhaps involved would be better term?) than they. But, I understand the need for personal fortification, closure, and conquest for the sake of razing something to the ground. If you feel the story has reached it's climax (and it's all downhill from here anyway) then the wow at the end should be something to look forward too, even if the ending appears telegraphed and changes just becasue you've looked at it. If you feel taking a break would make the story come alive again then I would argue that what you are doing is like jazzing before the fangasm begins or taking the wind out of our sails. Be that as it may, what I'd like to see is an adventure with a challenge where the danger is greater than being exposed as a fruadster. Secrets and espionage are all well and good but atomic horror is much more fun.

As someone who is taking college courses full-time I can understand the need to prioritize. However don't think we won't hold you to your word, after all... NO oNe bReakS a pINkie PrOmISE:pinkiecrazy:

I shall eagerly await your triumphant return in the future.

Take whatever time you need, if you feel you need time away then you do it. Good luck with your certification! :pinkiehappy:

Well, your life has to come ahead of your hobby. Here's hoping you get things straightened out & can restart soon.

I have an idea, how about you let someone take over the story? I mean like start a new fic that continues with this story so that if you come back this will still be the same. Who knows maybe you can get some inspiration from reading someone else's interpretation of this. Just let someone ask and post a link in the last chapter's note.

hey, real life always takes precedence. fanfiction is supposed to be fun, right? anyway, i think maybe 2 or 3 normal size chapters might be better than one massive chapter.

4252327 Go big or go home after such a massive hiatus...
Though, maybe that is because I have no problem reading an over 70k words chapter...

We will miss the story. And you.

sucks but understandable. at least we have a set condition for it's end.

Life sucks like that, but it's all for the better)

Good luck on getting your sertificates! :pinkiehappy:

When I saw the title of this out of the corner of my eye after scrolling past Lord of Dorkness saying he had a cold, I thought it said "My Twilight Hurts".

That said, good luck. I'll miss this story, but I know what it feels like to be overworked and at risk of resenting a personal project for adding to the stress.

Wish you luck with your studies, getting a license and certification.
4252146 - I join.

I completely understand. Burn-out is quite a serious thing.

Just, don't worry. We all support you, so get some sleep you, :twilightsheepish:

I know the feeling, man. Take all the time you need; besides, not only is writing much more fun when it doesn't feel like a job, but the work tends to be better when the author is passionate.

I'll read the shit out of it when you're back, but until then, good luck with your job!

Take a break you've earned it! :pinkiehappy:

As someone with a Tumblr pony comic...thing.. I totally get this. Was unemployed for nine months, art just rolled outta me. Get a steady job again? I update maybe once a month IF IM LUCKY.

Take that break. I tried to push it for two years and it just left me stressed, angry and unproductive. Love your art, don't make yourself hate it.

That's alright man, take your time. Writing when you're just not feeling it is hard and paperwork tends to multiply when left unattended. Good luck slaying the paperwork demons.

Rest in months to come.
Renewed with vigor and strength.
Rise like the phoenix.

Dude, have a nice break. I hope you're feeling better by the end of t.

What certs you working on?

Okay. Lemme pitch a tent.
I'll wait.

4338156 and catch the wind under your wings evermore

P.S. cus poetry :twilightsheepish:
